Senior Software Engineer II, Developer Experience

You'll join a lean team focused on removing friction from the software delivery lifecycle so engineers can do their best work. You'll build the MCP servers, agents, and plugin infrastructure that power AI-native development, design agents to solve specific developer problems, architect CI/CD pipelines, and build the infrastructure other engineers rely on. You'll also mentor engineers and help raise the technical bar through code reviews and architectural guidance.

Responsibilities

• Build MCP servers, agents, and plugin infrastructure that Carta's AI native development runs on
• Define the patterns other engineers follow
• Design and ship agents purpose-built to solve specific developer problems across the software delivery lifecycle
• Architect and drive CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment to accelerate delivery across R&D
• Build the infrastructure AI tooling runs on so other engineers can build on top of it with confidence
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through code reviews and architectural guidance

Requirements

• 8+ years in platform, backend, or fullstack engineering
• Shipped production LLM systems such as MCP servers or clients, AI extensions, connectors, or agents solving real problems
• Experience building platforms other engineers build on top of, with strong focus on API design and developer ergonomics
• Proficiency in Python or Java
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as CircleCI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Docker
• Experience with cloud-native technologies such as AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes
• Familiarity with secrets management tooling such as Vault, Cloudsmith is a plus
• Awareness of least-privilege, token lifecycle, and supply chain security risks in developer tooling design
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems and deliver with minimal guidance
