Role Title: Senior Software Engineer II
Position Summary:
Marriott International is seeking a highly engaged and motivatedSenior Software Engineerto join theProcurement Technologyteam. This hands-on role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting scalable enterprise applications and integration solutions that enable Marriotts procurement capabilities. The engineer will contribute throughout the software development life cycle and collaborate with product, architecture, engineering, QA and other technology teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
The ideal candidate has strong full-stack software engineering experience and a solid understanding of modern application architecture, REST APIs, microservices, cloud-native development, databases, containerized platforms and integration patterns. The candidate should be passionate about building secure, reliable, scalable and maintainable solutions, solving complex technical problems, contributing to technical design and engineering best practices and continuously improving software quality and delivery effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, implement and maintain high-quality enterprise applications and services that support Procurement Technology.
- Build scalable, accessible and maintainable front-end applications usingReact and TypeScript and back-end services usingNode.js.
- Design, develop, and integrateRESTful APIs, microservices and application integration solutions.
- Translate functional and business requirements into well-designed, maintainable technical solutions.
- Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions, including implementation approaches, design trade-offs and technical decisions within the teams scope.
- Develop cloud-native solutions onAWSusing containerised application architectures withDocker and Kubernetes.
- Apply software engineering principles and design patterns to build secure, reliable, scalable, maintainable and high-performing applications.
- Design data models and useSQL and NoSQL databaseseffectively, including query optimisation and appropriate data-access patterns.
- Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, API and application-level tests to improve software quality and reduce regression risk.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain standards for quality, security, performance and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot complex application, API, integration and production issues; perform root-cause analysis; and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Contribute toCI/CD and DevOps practices, including automated build, test, deployment, release and rollback processes.
- Support application logging, monitoring, observability, operational readiness, production support and the teams on-call rotation, as applicable.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including application designs, API specifications, integration details, runbooks and operational documentation.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps and SRE teams, system integrators and other engineers to deliver end-to-end technology solutions.
- Provide technical guidance, code-review support and knowledge-sharing to junior engineers.
- Identify practical opportunities to improve application architecture, engineering practices, automation, performance, reliability and developer productivity.
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly, where appropriate, to improve coding, testing, documentation and troubleshooting.
Managing Priorities and Delivery:
- Manage assigned technical priorities and deliver high-quality solutions within agreed timelines and commitments.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and help mitigate technical risks, dependencies, blockers, and delivery concerns.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Quality Assurance, and Engineering teams to resolve dependencies and support successful solution delivery.
- Balance delivery objectives with software quality, security, performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability considerations.
- Take ownership of assigned solutions throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Support Agile planning activities by providing accurate effort estimates, identifying technical dependencies, and contributing to sprint and release commitments.
- Demonstrate accountability for meeting delivery objectives while maintaining engineering standards and operational readiness.
Skills and Experience:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including designing, developing, testing, deploying and supporting enterprise applications.
- Strong hands-on full-stack development experience withTypeScript, React and Node.js.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles, application architecture, design patterns, clean coding practices and the software development life cycle.
- Experience designing and developingRESTful APIs, microservices and integration solutions.
- Experience withSQL and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, data-access patterns and query optimisation.
- Experience withNestJS,Next.js, or other modern Node.js frameworks are preferred.
- Experience with modern front-end development, including state management libraries such asRedux, MobX, and Zustand, as well as build tools such asWebpackandVite are preferred.
- Experience developing cloud-native applications usingAWS. Familiarity with GCP is a plus.
- Experience withDocker and Kubernetesfor containerization, deployment and orchestration.
- Experience withCI/CD and DevOps practices, including source control, automated builds, testing, deployment and release processes.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated unit, integration and API tests using modern testing frameworks and tools.
- Familiarity withevent-driven architecturesand messaging technologies such asKafkais preferred.
- Understanding of application and API security, including authentication, authorisation, secure coding practices, secrets management and vulnerability remediation.
- Good understanding of scalability, reliability, availability, performance and maintainability considerations for enterprise applications.
- Experience debugging complex technical and production issues and performing root-cause analysis.
- Experience with application logging, monitoring and observability practices and tools.
- Experience working with Git-based source control and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and technical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in cross-functional Agile engineering teams.
- Familiarity with Generative AI, Large Language Models, AI APIS, prompt-based development or AI-assisted software development tools is a plus.
