Senior Software Engineer
Summary
Senior Software Engineer on INSPIRE's Digital Services team in Buffalo, NY, designing and maintaining software for the meetings & events industry. Day-to-day is heavy Ruby on Rails development with PostgreSQL/DynamoDB, Kafka/SQS, AWS, AI-assisted coding (Claude Code), and high-volume code review of human- and AI-generated code.

INSPIRE seeks a Senior Software Engineer to work on our Digital Services team in Buffalo, NY, to design, develop, and maintain software-based solutions to the meetings & events industry.
The salary range is: $115,000-130,000.

Responsibilities/Skills:
- Collaborate with Digital Services leadership on technology architecture, project roadmap, and team goals.
- Professionally maintain all software and build new features to address customer and company concerns.
- Uphold code quality through automated testing and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Bring extensive hands-on experience with Claude Code and other AI-assisted development tools, including the effective use of subagents to plan, parallelize, and execute engineering work.
- Serve as a strong individual contributor who takes ownership of code standards across the team’s projects, using and recommending patterns during code review.
- Perform thorough, high-volume code review on both human- and AI-generated code, analyzing for weaknesses and errors and balancing corrective feedback with educational guidance rather than rubber-stamping AI-generated changes.
- Strong sense of team collaboration and communication with supervisors and coworkers, along with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Must be detail-oriented and quality-driven.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other equivalent degree/experience.
- Minimum 7+ years of full-time Ruby on Rails experience.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong individual contributor and effective team contributor.
- Extensive knowledge of the software development life cycle, web application development, and project management.
- Experience with source code management and issue tracking systems (GitHub, GitLab, Jira, etc.).
- Experience with relational and NoSQL database structures (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Experience with event streaming (Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, etc.).
- Experience with API integration between internal and third-party systems.
- Familiarity with AWS (Amazon Web Services) or similar cloud infrastructure platforms.
