Senior / Software Engineer (Java)
Summary
Backend Java engineer (hired via Maestro HR agency) based in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore: design, build and maintain Spring Boot services and REST APIs, optimise SQL database layers, and mentor junior developers. Requires 3+ years of Java experience; open to Singaporeans only at S$6,500–7,500/month.
Salary: $6,500 – $7,500 per month
Key responsibilities
Design, develop, test and maintain backend applications using Java, Spring Boot and related technologies.
Translate business and functional requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and services with internal and external systems.
Design and optimise database queries, schemas and data access layers.
Contribute to application architecture, including service boundaries, integration patterns and scalability.
Conduct code reviews and promote good coding practices, maintainability and secure development.
Investigate application defects, resolve production issues and perform root cause analysis.
Improve application performance, reliability and observability through profiling, logging and monitoring.
Develop automated unit and integration tests and support system integration and user acceptance testing.
Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams on build pipelines, deployments and releases.
Maintain technical documentation, including API specifications, design decisions and operational guidance.
Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
Participate in effort estimation, sprint planning and delivery tracking.
About you
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 3 years of hands-on Java development experience
Strong knowledge of Core Java, object-oriented programming, collections, exception handling and concurrency.
Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework and Spring Data JPA/Hibernate.
Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs, including authentication, validation and error handling.
Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
