Senior Software Engineer
We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join our technology team. In this role, you will work across both our legacy .NET/SQL Server platform and a new AWS-native, microservices platform, partnering with engineers, product, and company leadership to modernize how KE Andrews delivers large-scale property tax technology. This position, and KE Andrews as a company, is geared towards individuals with a long-term outlook that want to turn a role into a career, not just work a job.
Responsibilities:
- Support, extend, and improve existing production applications built on .NET, SQL Server, and React/Angular, running on on-prem Windows servers.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across the full stack, from database to UI, and make pragmatic calls about what to refactor now versus what to leave alone ahead of migration.
- Design and build new services on AWS using a microservices / distributed systems architecture.
- Develop backend services in Go and front-end applications in React.
- Contribute to decisions on service boundaries, data flow, observability, and deployment patterns as we shift away from on-prem infrastructure.
- Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) as a core part of your workflow to increase throughput, reduce boilerplate, and speed up code review, while maintaining strong engineering judgment about what AI output to trust, test, or rewrite.
- Work across multiple projects and workstreams concurrently, prioritizing based on business impact.
- Partner with product, other engineers, and data teams where applicable to scope and deliver work.
- Write clear documentation and communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor other engineers, including on effective use of AI-assisted development practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated seniority - technical ownership, mentorship, or leading workstreams.
- Heavy, demonstrable use of AI-assisted development tools, with the ability to speak concretely to what works, how you verify output, and how you recognize when a model is confidently wrong.
- Real production depth in a statically typed backend language - .NET/C# or Go preferred; strong Java, Kotlin, or comparable experience will also be considered.
- Strong SQL and comfort reasoning about data at volume.
- Production experience with a modern front-end framework - React or Angular.
- Real, substantive experience building on AWS, ideally with microservices or distributed systems.
- Strong debugging and systems thinking across the full stack, from a database query plan to a browser network tab.
- Ability to context-switch across multiple projects without losing quality or momentum.
- Nice to have (we will teach): whichever of .NET or Go you haven't worked in, on-prem Windows server environments, Databricks, Python, legacy-to-cloud migration experience, CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code, or property tax domain knowledge.
Our Current Technology Landscape:
- Legacy Platform: .NET, SQL Server, React/Angular, on-prem Windows servers
- New Platform: Go, React, AWS (microservices / distributed systems)
- AI-Assisted Development: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and similar tools used daily across both platforms
- Emerging/Adjacent Tools: Databricks, Python, CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code
Perks:
- Hybrid work schedule - three days on-site in our Rockwall, Texas office, two days remote
- Full health benefits
