Senior Software Engineer - LATAM
Summary
Aubrant Digital is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Escazu, Costa Rica to build a greenfield variant-analysis (genomics/laboratory) platform, working full-stack from SQL database and C#/.NET backend services to a Vue.js front-end. The role covers architecture decisions, lab-system integrations, CI/CD, observability, and mentoring other developers.
Job Description:
Aubrant Digital is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support software solutions for the VAaAST (Variant Analysis) platform, enabling variant analysis, interpretation, reporting, and laboratory workflows. This is a new, greenfield initiative, and we need a hands-on, full-stack engineer who is equally comfortable helping shape the overall architecture and design as they are writing production code — from the database and backend services through to the front-end UI. This engineer will serve as a key technical resource, delivering scalable, maintainable, and secure software while supporting platform growth, system integrations, and technical modernization initiatives.
Must-Have Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, including recent hands-on delivery in C#/.NET.
- Proven ability to work comfortably across the full technology stack — database, backend services/APIs, and front-end UI — and to contribute to overall architecture and system design decisions on a new/greenfield project, not only execute against designs handed off by others.
- Strong, hands-on experience with C#/.NET and modern front-end frameworks (Vue.js/PrimeVue or equivalent). Experience with React, Angular, or Vue is valuable, but what matters most is a solid, practical understanding of modern front-end concepts, including state management (Pinia/Vuex or equivalent), component-based architecture, and effective data flow patterns.
- Experience designing and implementing reliable systems for network- and file I/O-intensive operations, including retry/backoff strategies, structured logging, robust error handling, failure recovery mechanisms, and proactive notification/alerting when failures occur.
- Experience translating approved requirements and technical designs into secure, scalable, and maintainable production-ready software.
- Strong SQL and database design expertise, including stored procedures, common table expressions (CTEs), indexing strategies, constraints, precomputed/derived values, and overall schema design for performance, integrity, and maintainability.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in technical design and architecture discussions and translate decisions into working implementations.
- Working experience with Git/Azure DevOps for source control and Jira/Confluence for delivery tracking and documentation.
- Ability to perform code reviews and promote development best practices, coding standards, and design patterns.
- Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to other developers.
Should-Have Requirements
- Experience designing and developing integrations between platforms (APIs, messaging, data exchange) and troubleshooting issues across environments.
- Experience contributing to CI/CD pipeline development and automated deployment processes.
- Experience developing automated unit tests and code-level validation.
- Experience supporting production releases, incident resolution, and root cause analysis activities.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (e.g., Application Insights, Datadog, ELK, or equivalent) to complement core error-handling and logging practices, supporting system health dashboards and alerting at scale.
- Experience producing technical design and implementation documentation, technical estimates, and implementation plans.
- Familiarity with secure development practices, including remediating security vulnerabilities and compliance-related technical findings.
- Experience integrating with enterprise laboratory and clinical platforms (e.g., LIMS, order and result routing, and digital pathology or imaging systems).
- Experience working in Agile delivery, including sprint ceremonies, technical design discussions, and release activities.
- Familiarity implementing solutions that support regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., CAP/CLIA, 21 CFR Part 11), including audit trails, access controls, and data protection.
Could-Have / Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Experience integrating with laboratory or clinical systems (e.g., LIMS, variant analysis, or similar healthcare/life sciences platforms).
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
- Familiarity addressing technical debt through refactoring and continuous platform improvement.
Ideal Candidate Traits:
- Curious, proactive, and collaborative.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Committed to delivering solutions together, not in competition.
- Embraces Agile methodology and promotes a one-team culture.
