Senior Software Engineer
Summary
Senior Software Engineer at Lyrebird Health building LLM-powered clinical documentation, task, and workflow features used by clinicians in live clinical settings. Owns features end to end from scoping to rollout, including a model router and a configurable task system that must stay reliable at growing scale.
Senior Software Engineer
The Role
Lyrebird is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build the AI features clinicians use once the consult ends, like documents, tasks, and clinical workflows. These are LLM systems running in live clinical environments, where accuracy and reliability matter as much as speed. You'll own what you build from scoping through to rollout, and you'll be measured on whether clinicians use it and pay for it. Traffic has doubled in six months, so it'll be tested at scale fast.
Most of what you'll build hasn't been built before, here or anywhere else, so there's no playbook to follow. That suits people who like making decisions with incomplete information and changing course quickly when they're wrong. It suits people less well if they need clear requirements up front. You'll judge your work by whether clinicians use it every week, not just by whether it shipped.
About Us
Every day in Australia, 10 people die from preventable medical errors. Not from incurable diseases, but from misdiagnosis, missed information, and clinicians making decisions under impossible pressure. At the centre of that failure is a doctor spending 40% of their day on paperwork instead of patients. Lyrebird is fixing that.
We turn real clinical conversations into accurate notes, automatically, backed by ambient real time document creation, intelligent document management and clinical workflow automation, native patient data integrations across siloed health systems, and a patient and clinical communications layer. Thousands of clinicians across multiple disciplines use Lyrebird every day in environments where accuracy, safety, and time matter deeply. We're growing fast across Melbourne, the UK, and Asia, and there's a finite window right now to set the standard for clinical AI in Australia before anyone else does.
What you'll do
Build features that automate clinical documents, tasks, and workflows, using LLMs where they make the result better for clinicians
Design a model router that decides which model handles each request, so our AI stays fast and affordable as usage grows
Build a configurable task system for our current and future products, so a feature built for clinicians in Australia can be set up for a new market without a rewrite
Work with Design, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to get new paid features in front of clinicians, and push back when a plan won't work
Watch how clinicians use what you've shipped, and keep improving it until it becomes part of their week
Keep the systems you build reliable as load grows, and fix them fast when they break
What you'll bring
You've shipped user-facing products from the first idea through to rollout, and you can explain what happened after launch
You've worked at a senior or staff level, where you were given an outcome and left to work out how to reach it
You've shipped something you knew wasn't perfect, and you can explain why that was the right call
You use AI tools like Claude Code every day as part of how you build
Nice to have
Experience designing and building large-scale, event-driven distributed systems
Experience building LLM evaluation frameworks or systems for AI-powered features
Experience in healthcare, clinical software, or other safety-critical environments
Clinicians using Lyrebird are making decisions about real patients, often with too little time and incomplete information. The features you build will decide how much admin they still have to do themselves, and whether the right information is in front of them when it matters. We take that seriously, and we're looking for people who do too.
We're building a team that reflects the diversity of the people who benefit from our work. We want Lyrebird to be a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. If you're from an underrepresented background in tech, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement.
