Senior Software Engineer
Why This Role Exists
Our client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take on a Product & Feature Lead role, sitting at the intersection of edge/IoT hardware, high-throughput cloud data processing, and complex data visualisation. You'll take loose client requirements and turn them into robust, production-grade features - end to end, across the full stack.
This role suits a highly autonomous developer who has mastered their core stack, thrives in a small team, and wants a genuine path toward a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager title as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Feature Ownership - Design, build, test, and deploy software connecting physical IoT sensors to browser-based analytics platforms.
- Big Data & Compute Orchestration - Work with massive, multi-gigabyte datasets (layer-wise build data, high-resolution imaging) and optimise AWS/containerised pipelines to process 3D point-cloud and scan-reconstruction data in near real-time.
- Cloud-to-Edge Architecture - Write TypeScript/Node backend logic, orchestrate pipelines in Python, and work in C++ on low-latency edge camera drivers and hardware triggers.
- Testing & Quality - Own the stability of your code with strong unit, integration, and end-to-end test coverage, keeping CI fast and reliable.
- Production Support - Triage bugs and debug across both multi-tenant AWS cloud and on-premise Linux environments, prioritising fixes with a proactive, logical approach.
- Customer-Facing Discovery - Join client calls to translate complex system or data-analysis requests into pragmatic technical tasks.
The Technology Stack
You don't need to be an expert in all of these on day one, but you should be eager to work across the full ecosystem:
- Backend & APIs: Node.js, TypeScript, Express, TypeORM, WebSockets
- Cloud & DevOps: AWS (CDK, SQS, S3, RDS, Batch), Docker, Docker Compose, PostgreSQL
- Data & Edge: Python (multiprocessing, automation, data pipelines), OpenCV, custom C++ edge integrations
- Frontend: React, Redux, Material-UI, Three.js (3D geometry and scan-data rendering)
- IoT Protocols: MQTT, Mosquitto
About You
Our client is looking for a pragmatist who values shipping working products over building over-engineered systems.
- 3-5+ years commercial software engineering experience, with a solid footing in full-stack or backend work
- Demonstrated AWS/infrastructure experience - deploying containerised apps (Docker), managing async queues (SQS) and serverless compute
- Proficiency in TypeScript/Node and Python; comfortable reading, writing, or tweaking C++ helper libraries when edge performance demands it
- High autonomy - comfortable with ambiguity, able to take a business goal, form a technical plan, and execute independently
- Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Must currently reside in Australia with full, unrestricted working rights
