Senior Software Engineer (must haves: NodeJS, Java, MySQL, Docker)
Summary
The Senior Software Engineer will design and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Node.js, working with event-driven architectures and containerized systems. The role involves collaborating with global teams to build data platforms and distributed systems.
Our NielsenIQ backend teams are building scalable, reliable, and cloud-native systems that power consumer-facing applications and data platforms used by clients worldwide. Our clients rely on NielsenIQ's data and insights to innovate and grow. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be part of a team of highly skilled engineers passionate about solving complex distributed system challenges. We work primarily with Java and Node.js, leveraging modern messaging, storage, and deployment technologies, with central technology hubs across Europe, Chennai and globally.
What you'll do
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Node.js.
- Build and optimize event-driven architectures and data pipelines with Kafka.
- Design and manage relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB).
- Deploy and operate services on container orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Contribute to Serverless architecture design and implementation.
- Evaluate the best approach to solve complex distributed system challenges.
- Collaborate closely with Product, DevOps, and Frontend teams to deliver high-quality features.
- Following source & test-driven development best practices.
- Track ticket progression with JIRA.
- Proactive communication with the team.
- Strong experience with Java (and best practices)
- Strong experience with Node.js (and best practices)
- Proficient with MySQL or other RDBMS
- Proficient with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
- Experience with Kafka or other event streaming / message broker technologies
- Experience with Docker and containerization
- Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
- Proficient with version control systems, such as Git
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a global team
It's a plus if you also have
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Experience with Spinnaker for continuous delivery
- Understanding of CICD, such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
- Familiarity with GitLab and GitHub
- Familiarity with Scrum development and tools, such as Jira
- Experience with Serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, etc.)
- Knowledge of API design and REST best practices
- Experience with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing)
