Senior Software Engineer

As a member of Planet’s Platform team, you will build and operate scalable, customer-focused imaging access and analysis services. You’ll work across Go, Python, Java, and cloud platforms to enable data catalog access, streaming, and geospatial tooling. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll ship production-grade code, improve observability, and own API reliability through SRE practices. The role offers growth through AI-assisted development and a chance to impact global customers with Planet’s geospatial data platform.

• Build, deploy, and maintain distributed services and APIs with emphasis on customer experience
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers across cross-functional teams to align goals
• Write high-quality, maintainable, observable production code and participate in code reviews
• Leverage AI tooling while maintaining high development standards
• Own operations of APIs/services with SRE practices: monitoring, alerts, runbooks, incidents
• Participate in on-call rotation to support external and internal services

• 6+ years of software development in production environments
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
• Proficiency in Python, Java, and/or Go
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and large codebases
• Familiarity with GCP or AWS
• Experience with relational, document, and key-value data stores
• Docker and Kubernetes experience
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to learn quickly and navigate ambiguous problems
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and methodologies
