Senior Software Engineer - Platform Integrations

Posted Updated
Discussion

Summary

Senior engineer at a major financial services organisation designing and owning integrations across Slack, Jira/Confluence and other third-party platforms — from discovery and POCs through to production. Core stack is Java/Spring Boot with REST APIs, plus growing exposure to LLMs, agents and MCP. Hybrid, 3 days a week in the Sydney office.

We’re working with a major financial services organisation building out a team responsible for how engineers and teams across the business interact with collaboration platforms such as Slack, Jira and Confluence.

This is not a traditional integration role where you are handed a specification and asked to build an API.

The team needs senior engineers who can take an ambiguous problem, work directly with product owners to understand what is actually required, explore different technical options, build proof-of-concepts, design the right solution and then take it through to production.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work across a range of internal engineering and collaboration use cases, including:
  • Designing and building integrations across Slack, Atlassian and other third-party platforms
  • Working with Product Owners to understand workflows, requirements and technical constraints
  • Turning loosely defined problems into structured technical solutions
  • Building POCs to validate different approaches before committing to a design
  • Designing APIs, services and integration patterns that are secure, resilient and supportable
  • Taking solutions from discovery through design, development, deployment and production support
  • Building and configuring Slack bots and increasingly agent-based workflows
  • Enabling integrations through emerging technologies such as MCP
  • Working alongside a broader AI Enablement capability and gaining exposure to multiple LLMs and agentic engineering patterns
  • Supporting and mentoring other engineers while remaining highly hands-on
What we’re looking for

You’ll likely be a senior software engineer or technical lead with strong Java / Spring Boot experience, but the real differentiator is your ability to own technical problems end to end.

You should bring:
  • Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot engineering experience
  • Excellent system and solution design capability
  • Experience integrating third-party platforms through APIs, webhooks, messaging or similar patterns
  • A track record of working with product or business stakeholders during discovery
  • Experience developing technical options and explaining trade-offs
  • Ability to build POCs and turn them into production-grade solutions
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, authentication, permissions, resilience and observability
  • Experience owning systems through build, deployment and production support
  • The maturity to mentor others and raise engineering standards across a team
Experience with Slack, Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, HubSpot or similar enterprise SaaS platforms would be useful, but is not essential.

Likewise, experience with MCP, agents, LLMs or AI engineering is valuable but not mandatory. The team is specifically interested in strong engineers who want to deepen their practical AI capability.

Why this role is different

The opportunity is particularly suited to an engineer who enjoys working before the implementation is already decided.

You won’t just be asked to code a predefined component. You’ll be expected to understand the problem, challenge assumptions, design the options, prove the approach and own the outcome.

You’ll also work alongside an established AI Enablement function, giving you exposure to agentic workflows, MCPs, enterprise knowledge systems and multiple LLM platforms without needing to already be an AI specialist.

For a strong Java engineer looking to move closer to technical design, internal platforms and practical AI engineering, this is a genuinely interesting next step.

3 days a week in the office - Salary $180,0000 - $240,000 plus bonus.
