Senior Software Engineer (Platform Networking)
Summary
Senior engineer building the network control plane and tooling for Crusoe Cloud — network state management, provisioning, and control plane APIs that scale across edge, backbone, and data center networks. Work spans backend languages (Go, Rust, C++, Java, Python), IaC/CI-CD, and networking protocols like BGP, gNMI, and gRPC.
- We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build a platform for network tooling that supports edge, backbone, and data center operations and deployment tasks at Crusoe Cloud, a leading cloud provider
- This role is central to how Crusoe Cloud manages and operates its network infrastructure across diverse environments, providing the tooling that operations and engineering teams rely on to deploy, monitor, and maintain the network reliably at scale
- As Crusoe Cloud scales, the reliability and usability of this tooling directly impacts the speed and efficiency of network operations across the company
- Network State Management: Design and develop the systems that manage network state for Crusoe Cloud, including network provisioning, configuration management, topology/routing state, and control plane APIs that other teams and systems rely on
- Scaling the Control Plane: Contribute to and help drive engineering efforts to scale control plane systems reliably as Crusoe Cloud grows, handling increasing network scale, device counts, and infrastructure complexity
- Mentorship and Code Quality: Mentor fellow engineers and help uphold high standards in design and implementation. Provide guidance on technical assessments and code reviews to maintain quality across the team
- Build vs. Buy Decisions: Partner closely with product to assess and recommend whether to develop control plane software in house or leverage third party/open source solutions, balancing scalability, cost, and speed
- Cross Functional Partnership: Partner with product, operations, and other engineering teams to build control plane systems that align with Crusoe Cloud’s growth and networking needs
- Reliability Engineering: Help design fault tolerant, distributed control plane systems to ensure high availability and resilience as Crusoe Cloud’s network grows
- Engineering Best Practices: Advocate for modern software development, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices to improve engineering velocity and control plane reliability
- End to End Ownership: Take ownership of initiatives, from ideation through development and deployment, delivering control plane infrastructure that drives measurable impact for Crusoe Cloud
Benefits
- Health & wellbeing: Comprehensive health benefits designed to support your overall wellness
- Time away: Paid time off for vacations, family bonding, and unexpected needs
- 401(k) match: Build your financial future with our 401(k) matching program
- Mental wellness: Resources and support for your emotional wellbeing and navigating life’s challenges
- The ideal candidate is an experienced distributed systems engineer who thrives on solving hard scalability and reliability problems at scale, enjoys mentoring other engineers, and wants ownership over infrastructure that’s mission critical to a fast growing cloud provider
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating cross functionally with product, operations, and other engineering teams
- Proficiency in at least one modern backend language such as Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consensus, state reconciliation, fault tolerance, and high availability design
- Track record of designing and building scalable, reliable APIs or services used by multiple teams
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, building backend systems in production
- Experience with networking software, protocols, or control plane systems (e.g., routing, switching, BGP, SDN)
- Experience at a cloud provider, hyperscaler, or large scale data center operator
- Familiarity with network telemetry/management protocols such as gNMI, gRPC, or NETCONF
- Experience with Kubernetes based orchestration or building custom controllers/operators
- Contributions to open source infrastructure or networking projects
