Senior Software Engineer (Python, FastAPI)

Summary

Senior backend engineer builds and scales high-volume data and messaging platforms using Python, FastAPI, and cloud-native tools for enterprise clients in a hybrid role based in NYC or Northern NJ.

We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a high-growth digital marketing technology company that builds large-scale data and messaging platforms used by enterprise customers across multiple industries. This is a full-time hybrid position requiring 2 days per week onsite in either Northern New Jersey or New York City. The ideal candidate will bring deep Python expertise, strong cloud engineering experience, and a passion for building scalable backend systems that operate at significant volume. U.S. work authorization is required. No visa sponsorship is available at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and design discussions for scalable, high-performance backend systems
  • Develop and maintain backend services using Python and modern frameworks such as Django, FastAPI, and Flask
  • Design and build RESTful APIs and service-oriented applications that support business‑critical platforms
  • Establish engineering best practices through code reviews, technical leadership, and mentorship of junior team members
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions
  • Participate in Agile development processes including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and daily standups

Required Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development
  • Expert‑level proficiency with Python and experience building production applications using Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks
  • Experience designing and implementing service‑oriented or microservices‑based architectures
  • Strong experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services and modern cloud‑native development practices
  • Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, system design, and Agile development methodologies
  • Experience supporting high‑traffic, high‑availability applications is highly preferred

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $125,000 – $135,000
  • Additional Bonus Opportunity
