Senior Software Engineer – Remote Italy Distributed Systems

Oliver James Associates Ltd. is partnering with an international technology company expanding its engineering team. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design of large-scale distributed systems and drive architecture decisions from concept to production.

The role is remote in Italy with visa/relocation considerations for relocation to Switzerland, and offers opportunities to mentor engineers, shape standards, and advance backend services and observability practices.

Lead the design and evolution of large-scale distributed systems. Drive architecture decisions around scalability, performance and maintainability. Own cross-team technical initiatives and influence engineering direction. Mentor engineers and raise standards around design, code quality, and operational excellence. Drive best practices across software design, testing and observability. Take ownership of critical features and services from concept through production. Degree in Computer Science or related field or extensive equivalent professional experience. Extensive experience designing large-scale distributed systems. Strong experience with Golang, C++ or Ruby. Strong knowledge of system design, algorithms and data structures. Experience with modern backend architectures, APIs and service-oriented systems. Strong automated testing experience, including TDD, BDD and integration testing. English fluency; Italian is a plus.
