Summary

Senior Software Engineer at Nuro builds backend services for a self-driving ride-hailing product, including real-time vehicle matching, dispatch, and telemetry systems using Go and GCP.

Who We Are

Nuro believes self-driving vehicles are the most immediate and profound opportunity for AI to drive positive change in the physical world. Safer streets, more time for what matters, and easier access to the world around us, that’s why we’re building a universal autonomy platform: self-driving for all roads and all rides.

Founded in 2016, Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology for a wide range of vehicles, use cases, and markets. Powered by the Nuro Driver™, our universal autonomy platform enables the global mobility ecosystem to deploy autonomy at scale, from robotaxis and logistics fleets to personal vehicles.

With years of real-world deployment experience and a flexible, partner-led business model, Nuro is working toward a future where millions of autonomous vehicles powered by our technology help make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected. Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, Softbank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and other leading investors.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build and scale the cloud services that power Nuro’s fleet of autonomous vehicles. The On-Road Experience team builds the integrations that enable our partners to use Nuro Driver for their use case.

This role combines hands-on backend engineering with product ownership. You’ll help decide what to build, make the technical trade-offs, and see the results in how riders and operators experience our vehicles.

What You’ll Own

  • Partner and vehicle integrations: Develop APIs and integrations with partners such as Uber, connecting ride requests and rider actions to vehicle workflows.
  • Real-time vehicle and trip state: Build services that process vehicle telemetry and provide timely, accurate status to partner platforms and rider and operations applications.
  • Production reliability: Improve availability, latency, and resilience. Design for delayed updates, retries, and partial failures, and build the monitoring and diagnostics needed to understand and resolve production issues.
  • Product delivery: Work with product, vehicle engineering, and operations teams to turn requirements into working services. Own implementation, rollout, and iteration based on production behavior and user feedback.
  • Technical leadership: Lead design discussions, make clear trade-offs, and improve engineering practices through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and mentorship.

About You

  • Backend engineering experience: 5+ years building production backend services, with strong proficiency in Go.
  • Distributed systems fundamentals: Experience designing and operating scalable, highly available services, with a strong understanding of API design, data modeling, asynchronous workflows, and failure handling.
  • Cloud experience: Hands-on experience operating services and data stores on GCP or a comparable cloud platform, using technologies such as Cloud SQL, Redis, or BigQuery.
  • Product judgment and ownership: A track record of taking projects from problem definition through launch and iteration. You ask why a feature matters, clarify ambiguous requirements, and focus on work that improves the product.
  • Collaborative technical leadership: Experience leading technical projects, mentoring engineers, and explaining design decisions across teams. You’re comfortable setting direction and working through implementation details.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with dispatch, fleet management, location services, or ride-hailing, delivery, and logistics platforms.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, streaming data, or systems that communicate with vehicles and other connected devices.
