Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

  • Design, build, review, test, and maintain Ruby on Rails features and services in line with Diligent’s agile engineering practices
  • Own technical delivery for projects, epics, and major user stories, including solution design, implementation planning, and execution through to production
  • Develop and evolve RESTful APIs and web applications with a strong focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, prototype solutions where needed, and help separate major components and subsystems as products evolve
  • Partner effectively with Product, QA, DevOps, Security, and other engineering teams to ensure smooth delivery of working software into production
  • Champion code quality through thoughtful code reviews, automated testing, documentation, continuous improvement of engineering practices, and sensible use of AI tools for coding, debugging, and prototyping with appropriate human validation
  • Mentor other engineers, share knowledge across the team, and help raise the bar on technical execution and delivery discipline
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in a commercial software environment
  • Strong hands-on experience building web applications and services
  • Excellent understanding of Ruby on Rails and practical experience delivering production-grade backend or full-stack applications with it
  • Strong experience with API and web development, including RESTful service design and implementation
  • Experience designing secure software in environments that embrace DevOps, infrastructure as code, and automated delivery practices
  • Solid understanding of microservices or service-oriented architectures and the trade-offs involved in distributed systems
  • Familiarity with source control systems such as Git and GitHub, along with common collaboration and branching workflows
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to mentor peers, contribute to engineering standards, and help break down larger initiatives into executable work
  • Working knowledge of SQL and data modeling, with the ability to reason about application performance and persistence-layer design
  • Experience working with AWS-based systems and modern cloud deployment patterns
  • Experience with message queues, asynchronous processing, or event-driven integration patterns
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, observability, and operational ownership of services in production
  • Experience modernizing legacy Rails applications or contributing to platform evolution initiatives
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
