Senior Software Engineer
Summary
Build and maintain a cloud CAD/CAM platform for staircase manufacturers using C# .NET, Angular, and SQL Server, solving geometry-heavy problems in 2D/3D rendering and CNC integration.
We're a small Australian software company with a close-knit development team in Makati, near Makati Medical Center. Our product, StairBiz, is used by staircase manufacturers across Australasia, Europe and North America. It combines CAD design, 3D visualization, manufacturing (CAM), CNC integration, estimating, quoting, scheduling and business management in a single platform.
StairBiz has recently completed its core migration from a long‑established desktop application to a modern cloud platform built on C# .NET, Angular and SQL Server. We're now focused on new features, performance and user experience for a global customer base — including genuinely interesting work in 2D/3D geometry, SVG and WebGL rendering, and CNC integration. If you're tired of CRUD apps and want problems worth solving, this is that role.
This isn't a role where you're simply assigned tickets. You'll own problems end to end, make technical decisions, and quickly see the impact of your work.
Before You Apply — Two Things to Know
This is a hands‑on, individual‑contributor role. There are no direct reports and no people‑management track — you will design and write code every day. If what you're looking for is to lead a team rather than build software, this isn't the right role.
Senior here means demonstrated depth: at least 5 years shipping commercial software, and the ability to show it. Our technical interview includes hands‑on coding — we ask you to demonstrate how you work through a real problem, not just describe it.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build and maintain features across the platform — C# .NET Web APIs, Angular front end, SQL Server.
- Improve the performance, reliability and maintainability of a large, evolving codebase.
- Contribute to technical design and architectural decisions.
- Diagnose and fix defects, including complex geometry and rendering issues.
- Take part in code reviews, testing and deployment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development, including commercial products (this is a firm requirement).
- A track record of owning features or subsystems end to end in a large production codebase.
- Strong C# .NET, plus solid Angular (or a comparable modern SPA framework), TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS.
- RESTful Web API development, SQL and database design, Entity Framework.
- Git or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Strong analytical and mathematical thinking — our domain is geometry-heavy.
- Clear written and spoken English.
- A degree in Computer Science, IT or Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to Have
- SVG, WebGL or other graphics programming.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications (VB6 exposure is a bonus, not a requirement).
How We Work
- Hybrid: three days a week in our Makati office, occasionally four.
- Hours: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, aligned with Australian business hours — which also means you beat Manila traffic both ways. Flexibility when needed; no overtime culture.
- Occasionally you may shift your hours to work with a European or North American client. This is arranged in advance and is the exception, not the routine.
- AI Training & Development: As you become familiar with our products and development practices, you'll have the opportunity to receive training in AI-assisted software development and gradually incorporate modern AI tools into your workflow.
- A small, experienced team where ideas are judged on merit — questions and challenges are welcome, wherever they come from.
Who Thrives Here
- You enjoy hard technical problems and follow them through to completion.
- You write maintainable code others can understand — not just code that works.
- You work independently but communicate and collaborate well.
- You're confident enough to challenge ideas and humble enough to accept better ones.
- You're curious about an unfamiliar business domain and keen to keep learning.
About Us
We've been building software for the staircase manufacturing industry for more than 20 years. Our clients design, manufacture and install timber, steel and glass staircases, and rely on us for ongoing development and support long after purchase.
