Senior Software Engineer, Substrate

Salary: £54,000 - 94,000 per year

• We require 4+ years of professional software development experience on core infrastructure with an emphasis on operational excellence.
• We require 2+ years of experience contributing to system design or architecture, including architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems.
• We require a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• We value systems programming experience with strong proficiency in Golang, C/C++, or equivalent.
• We value working knowledge or hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Kubernetes operators, and competent coding in Go, Java, or equivalent for automation or scripting.
• We value deep familiarity with hardware and OS configurations, diagnostic tooling, and networking fundamentals.
• We value deep familiarity with containers and orchestration at scale.
• We value experience working with a cloud provider or sysadmin/SRE experience in data centers.

• We value working knowledge of networking fundamentals, with experience in CNIs or cloud networking infrastructure preferred.

• We design and build our managed Kubernetes product offerings across on-premises, cloud hyperscaler, internet-connected, air-gapped, small-footprint, and large-scale environments.
• We bootstrap and operate our entire fleet of Kubernetes clusters with zero manual steps by building industry-leading tooling and contributing to core CNCF components.
• We ensure scale, stability, and security across a matrix of compliance regimes and hosting infrastructure types.
• We deliver container runtimes to new environment types, including new clouds, on-premise, and edge devices.
• We build automation and establish standards for operating Kubernetes securely at scale with zero manual operations overhead.
• We drive innovation through adoption of novel Kubernetes features and CNCF tools, making upstream contributions as needed.
• We design the next generation of our infrastructure through a deep understanding of internal systems and CNCF standards.
• We pre-empt, deeply root-cause, and resolve production issues, with a strong focus on automation and self-healing systems.
