Senior Engineer, TRIVER

About us

Empowering Entrepreneurs with Extraordinary Financial Tools

UK small businesses generate £1,000 billion annually, yet endure a £150 billion capital shortage due to unpaid invoices. This cash flow challenge limits growth and leads to business failures, affecting lives and society.

At TRIVER, we solve this with instant, short-term capital access. Utilising the latest technology, our API-first platform and open banking data provide 100% automated working capital solutions.

Join us to revolutionise financial services and support the real economy.

A low ego, high bar environment.

We are an international, diverse, and passionate team of creators, doers and innovators who want to empower entrepreneurs with out-of-the-box ideas to make the real economy thrive. We believe in unleashing talent potential and harnessing the power of creativity.

You will join a small team that is still deciding what a lot of this looks like. There will be whiteboarding, new concepts to invent, and real ambiguity to navigate. There isn't much hierarchy and there aren't many pre-defined rules. There is a lot of learning and sharing.

About your role

You will build technology that directly impacts the lives of our customers.

From implementing a financial model to creating self-healing, eventually consistent domain services, you will design and create performant, reliable applications that directly contribute to TRIVER's mission.

We work in an Extreme Programming environment, with fast feedback loops and small deployments, subject matter experts close to hand for business decisions, and a rigorous use of TDD. Expect continuous deployment, engaging colleagues, and ownership of challenging problems.

Our stack is typed Python with Pydantic throughout, running serverless on AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Step Functions), with Terraform for infrastructure, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and Snowflake for reporting and analytics. Open banking data feeds our underwriting and monitoring; our API is how partners embed us in their own products.

As Senior Engineer, you will:

  • Use your experience and expertise to guide technology decisions both on a project and company level
  • Use a DDD based approach to create, maintain, and deploy domain services, working closely with subject matter experts
  • Design scalable, secure, fault tolerant infrastructure, utilising a serverless-first approach
  • Work with AI as a first-class part of the toolchain, agentic coding tools day to day and model-backed features in the product, bringing the judgement to know which of the two a problem calls for
  • Mentor other members of the team

You should apply if you have

  • Built and run production services on AWS: Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge or close equivalents
  • Strong Python, and opinions about what good typed Python looks like at service boundaries
  • Used infrastructure-as-code in anger, whether Terraform or an equivalent
  • An appreciation for data driven decisions, with SQL and data modelling being second nature
  • A curiosity for system design, and a passion for designing idiomatic APIs
  • Used AI coding tools seriously enough to have a view on where they help and where they don't

You are

  • comfortable making decisions without complete information, in a codebase and a domain that are both still forming
  • a rigorous logical thinker with strong analytical skills
  • a team player who shines in a collaborative environment
  • thoughtful about risk, willing to think big and able to tell which risks are worth taking in a regulated lender

Nice to have

  • Experience in FinTech, particularly lending or credit
  • Exposure to evolutionary architecture principles
  • Worked with eventually consistent service orientated designs
  • Experience working with open banking data

Why join us?

We buy the best tools and we don't ration them. Frontier model subscriptions, whatever editor and terminal you're fastest in, the AWS services that actually fit the problem. We would rather spend money on leverage than have engineers working around a procurement policy.

The flip side is that we standardise deliberately where it counts, on service configuration, deployment and observability, and we expect senior engineers to know which decisions are theirs and which belong to the org.

The problems are hard and the environment is ambiguous: you will help decide what gets built, not just build it. We move quickly because our feedback loops are short and our deployments are small, not because we work long hours.

Be part of a talented team that will respect and value who you are, whoever you are. We are a fact-based organisation: we judge from tangible actions, not preconceived ideas, and we win as one team. In practice that means a small and non-hierarchical group, straightforward communication, no bureaucracy, and decisions made quickly.
