About the role
We are creating a new senior engineering role to own our customer-facing software as the company scales. Our web and mobile apps are how customers view their data, manage their sensors and commission hardware in the field. They are used by utility operations teams, council staff, installers and farmers, so they need to be easy to use as well as reliable.
We take pride in delivering intuitive and well thought interfaces to our customers and you’ll become an integral part of that.
You will design, build and ship features across the web apps (React and TypeScript, with C# services) and the mobile app (React Native, including Bluetooth commissioning of sensors on site). You will co-ordinate testing and the release process, and take features from a short brief through to production. You will have the support of other senior engineers, including the founders.
This is a hands-on role and most of your week is spent developing and delivering features.
What you will do
Design and build customer-facing features for the web and mobile apps, from brief to release.
Understand how customers use the apps and design interfaces that make their work simpler.
Co-ordinate testing using internal resources.
Run app store and web releases.
Develop with security in mind, in line with our ISO 27001 and SOC 2 programme.
Use AI coding tools as a normal part of your work, and review what they produce properly.
What we are looking for
Senior-level experience building and shipping production web applications in React and TypeScript.
Experience shipping a mobile app to the App Store and Google Play, ideally in React Native.
A strong sense for user experience. You have designed interfaces people found easy to use, and you can explain why they worked.
Empathy for the customer. You want to know who is using the software and what they are trying to get done.
Comfort working in C# on the services behind the front end.
Serious experience with AI coding assistants, and the judgement to know when their output is wrong.
The ability to run your own work from a short brief.
Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, IoT platforms or secure development practices would be an advantage but is not essential. A relevant tertiary qualification is welcome but not required.
