Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build scalable backend services for travel domain products. You will own modules end-to-end, set the technical direction for your area, and mentor engineers around you while staying hands-on with code.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based microservices for travel platforms (booking, inventory, fares, payments, or ancillary flows).
- Own technical design for assigned modules from solution approach to production rollout.
- Write clean, testable, well-documented code and drive high standards through code reviews.
- Integrate with internal and third-party APIs (GDS, supplier, payment, and partner systems).
- Optimize application and database performance for high-volume, low-latency workloads.
- Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, build quality, and deployment reliability.
- Mentor SE II / SE III engineers and support onboarding within the team.
- Work directly with product owners, QA, and client stakeholders to shape requirements and clarify scope.
Requirements:
- Must-have technical skills: Java 8 (and above) with strong fundamentals in OOP, collections and concurrency, Spring / Spring Boot framework, Oracle (or equivalent RDBMS) SQL, stored procedures, query tuning, Microservices architecture and design patterns, Web services SOAP and REST, CI/CD practices and pipelines, Git and standard branching workflows.
- Proven experience designing distributed systems and making architectural trade-offs.
- Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP), containers, and Kubernetes is preferred.
Functional experience:
- Prior experience in the travel domain is required: OTA, airline, hospitality, GDS, or travel-tech platforms.
- Familiarity with booking flows, PNR handling, fare/pricing logic, or supplier integrations is a strong advantage.
Good to have AI and FDE:
- Not mandatory. These are strong differentiators and will be considered a plus.
- Hands-on use of AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, and Windsurf) in day-to-day development.
- Working knowledge of LLM APIs, prompt design, structured outputs, and RAG basics.
- Exposure to Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) ways of working, sitting close to the customer, rapid prototyping, and shipping iteratively against live feedback.
- Comfort demoing work directly to client stakeholders and turning ambiguous asks into working software.
- Awareness of AI-assisted testing, code review, and documentation workflows.
Soft skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication, able to present designs and trade-offs clearly.
- Comfortable working directly with clients and cross-functional teams.
- Ownership mindset; drives issues to closure without being chased.
