Summary

One-year contract in Hong Kong for a senior engineer who designs and builds automation workflows and business systems, keeps production integrations running, and owns quality, documentation, and troubleshooting while mentoring engineers and QA analysts. Core stack: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (Rust where performance warrants), SQL, and CI/CD test automation.

About the Role

The role designs and builds automation workflows and business systems, and builds and maintains integrations between systems in production. The post-holder works with process owners to map how things run today and design better solutions before automating them, and mentors engineers and QA analysts while holding their work to the team's engineering standards. Ownership of quality, documentation and troubleshooting of production issues is central to the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build automation workflows and business systems in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, with Rust where performance justifies it.
  • Build integrations between systems and keep them running reliably in production, with sensible failure handling.
  • Troubleshoot production issues in existing workflows and fix the root cause rather than the symptom.
  • Own quality for what is shipped, including test plans, automated unit, API and end-to-end suites running in CI/CD, and defects driven through to closure.
  • Work with process owners to map how things run today and design something better before automating it.
  • Mentor engineers and QA analysts, review their work and hold it to the team's engineering standards.
  • Document workflows, system changes and operational runbooks, and keep them current.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline.
  • 4 to 6 years in software development, automation or quality engineering, including 1 to 2 years leading a project or mentoring others.
  • Strong Python and JavaScript/TypeScript skills, with solid SQL.
  • Comfortable reviewing others' code and giving feedback that improves it.
  • Experience with test automation running in CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins or equivalent).
  • Experience with API design and testing (Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI).
  • Experience with external-facing systems: authentication, role-based permissions, data segregation between partners and audit logging.
  • Team player with a joyful approach to work and a passion for sports.
  • Fluent English, written and verbal.
  • Candidates with more experience will be considered for the role of Assistant Manager.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and conversational AI orchestration.
  • Experience in a similar role in sporting goods, fashion, manufacturing or supply chain.
