Senior Software Test Engineer 4
About the Role: The Senior Software Test Engineer is integral role in our Network Management Systems (NMS) development team, contributing test analysis, design and execution expertise to development of our NMS and SDN (Software Defined Networking) product.
The role is to undertake software and system testing; develop and maintain automated tests; provide senior level contribution to all stages of software development life cycle including requirements, test planning, deployment and support; and take technical ownership for testing of key functionality.
The product’s core technologies include Node.js, Vue.js, MongoDB, YANG data modelling, network management (SNMP and NETCONF) and telecommunications networking (Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS).
The product includes expert system modules utilizing network performance data to provide actionable insights. LLM integration and more advanced AI capabilities on the near-term roadmap. For testing and test automation we utilize Python, Robot Framework, Playwright, ReportPortal, Postman.
Responsibilities:
- Test analysis and design, including the detailed specification of test cases
- Execute manual tests on NMS application including system level tests involving NMS and networking devices such as microwave radios, routers, switches
- Design and maintain automated tests for NMS using Robot Framework, Python and Playwright
- Use test results and exploratory testing to diagnose problems, and provide comprehensive reporting to the development team
- Conduct thorough functional, performance, scalability, stability, and usability testing
- Investigate complex issues in development and deployment, collaborating closely with wider NMS team staff, and reproducing and tracking problems to their source
- Support maintenance and upkeep of team’s test infrastructure including radio and networking gear, servers, VMs, booking & reporting systems
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our testing processes and methodologies within an Agile Kanban framework.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software/Telecommunications/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant Software testing experience in commercial product development environment including both server-side and client-side testing
- Strong core test analysis, test design, test execution, diagnosis and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to lead the testing effort on new major product capabilities
- Proficient in developing and maintaining complex automation scripts and frameworks in Python, ideally including Robot Framework
- Experience with UI testing tools such as Playwright or Selenium
- Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, ideally including MongoDB
- Experience in automating RESTful API tests
- Windows or Linux platform software testing
- Proficiency with GitLab and Jira
- Comfortable in working with networking and telecommunications devices (routers, switches, radios)
- NMS (Network Management Systems) or similar experience (e.g. IoT, monitoring systems, control systems), ideally prior experience with SNMP MIBs and SNMP based management tools
- Networking knowledge e.g., carrier ethernet, IP/MPLS
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills to address technical challenges and make informed decisions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and directions
- Comfortable working in Agile development cycles with iterative testing and fast feedback loops
- Experience in using AI tools in software development life cycle and test automation
