Senior Sourcing Engineer

Purpose of Job:

The Senior Sourcing Engineer is responsible for sourcing, developing and managing suppliers to support the company’s material, component and fabrication needs. The role ensures timely procurement, cost control, supplier quality, delivery coordination, compliance with internal procedures and effective support to the sourcing team.

Job Duties:

  1. Supplier Sourcing and Development
    • Source, develop and onboard suppliers to support material, component, machining and fabrication requirements.
    • Evaluate suppliers based on technical capability, quality requirements, capacity, cost competitiveness and commercial suitability.
    • Maintain strong supplier and market networks for fabrication, raw materials, machining, metal finishing and related facilities.
    • Source and procure infrared optical materials where required, with relevant experience considered an added advantage.

  2. Procurement, Delivery and Cost Management
    • Source and procure mechanical parts, high-precision metal machining parts, fabricated components, metal, plastic components and other required materials.
    • Monitor supplier delivery performance and coordinate delivery schedules to meet business requirements.
    • Monitor and control material costs, including negotiation of pricing, payment terms and commercial conditions.
    • Drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
    • Establish and implement vendor Kanban and vendor-managed inventory arrangements where suitable.

  3. Technical, Quality and Compliance
    • Review engineering drawings, specifications, machining processes and technical requirements to ensure supplier understanding and compliance.
    • Monitor supplier quality performance and coordinate corrective actions when quality or compliance requirements are not met.
    • Ensure full compliance with internal procedures and audit requirements without compromising product quality.
    • Conduct regular safety briefings, risk assessments and corrective actions for non-compliance where required.

  4. Import and Delivery Coordination
    • Support vendor import processes, shipment documentation and delivery scheduling.
    • Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers to resolve sourcing, quality, shipment and delivery issues.

  5. People Management
    • Lead, train and develop sourcing staff to ensure competency, teamwork, productivity and safety.
    • Establish clear roles, responsibilities and performance expectations for the team.
    • Oversee manpower planning, rostering and discipline management where assigned.

Candidate's Requirements

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in sourcing, purchasing or the mechanical fabrication industry.
• Experience in supplier development, high-precision metal machining parts, machining or fabricated components is preferred.
• Experience in sourcing or procurement of infrared optical materials will be an added advantage.
• Familiarity with Malaysian customs rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Familiar with MRP and ERP systems.
• Able to read, write, and speak Bahasa Malaysia and English. Ability to communicate in Mandarin will be an added advantage, as the role may require coordination with China colleagues.
• For candidates based in Singapore, the role requires frequent business travel to the Malaysia factory, expected to be around once a week or as required by business needs.
