Senior SQL Server Database Administrator

Emagine is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to join a collaborative and dynamic project environment in Portugal. This role is ideal for a senior DBA with strong hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure, looking to take ownership of production database operations across performance, availability, incident resolution, and release management.

You will work across the full DBA lifecycle, operating with a high level of autonomy in complex production environments. You will collaborate with application teams, infrastructure partners, and release management teams to ensure reliable, secure, and continuously improving database operations.

What You'll Be Working On

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server databases in production environments integrated with Azure.

• Manage high-availability solutions, including Always-On Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex SQL Server incidents, including root cause analysis and remediation.

• Perform query tuning, T-SQL optimisation, and execution plan analysis.

• Manage Azure SQL, Azure Monitor, Azure Pipelines, Azure Event Hub, and related cloud services.

• Automate database operations using PowerShell.

• Execute and validate production releases using Azure DevOps and UrbanCode Deploy.

• Manage database security, permissions, and audit-quality documentation.

• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and release management teams.

• Contribute to runbooks and the continuous improvement of database operations.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in production environments.

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.

• Strong experience with Always-On Availability Groups.

• Solid experience with T-SQL and performance tuning.

• Strong Azure experience is mandatory.

• Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Monitor, Azure DevOps, Azure Pipelines, and Azure Event Hub.

• Hands-on experience with PowerShell automation.

• Experience with Failover Cluster Instances and storage management.

• Strong incident management and production support experience.

• Good understanding of database security, permissions, and operational best practices.

• Experience working autonomously in complex production environments.

• Professional English at C1 level, spoken and written.

• Valid work permit or EU/Schengen nationality to legally work in Portugal.

Nice to Have

• Experience with PostgreSQL or other database technologies.

• Experience with UrbanCode Deploy, Jira, or DBeaver.

• Azure Database Administrator or Microsoft SQL Server certifications.

• Experience in regulated environments, particularly financial services.

• Knowledge of Git or other DevOps practices.

Location & Eligibility

• Candidates must be based in Portugal.

• Hybrid working model (2/3x per week).

• Work location: Portugal / Lisbon.
