Compensation: $60k – $100k
Must be a U.S. citizen
About Us: We are a boutique consultancy that helps payers, providers, and HealthTech companies create transformational software. Our entirely U.S. development based team is highly specialized, focusing only on healthcare projects. This allows us to securely handle PHI and create differentiated IP that clients own. Since our founding, we have been a remote-first company and intend to stay that way.
About the Role: This is a contract role, not full-time employment. We are a services firm, so you'll work across a variety of client projects.
We're looking for data engineers who can architect a data platform and then build it. You'll take a client's scattered data and design the whole system: how data lands, how it flows, how it's modeled, and how it reaches the people who use it. Then you'll build it, take it to production, and leave it in a state others can run. The work includes:
- Designing end-to-end data architecture: ingestion, pipelines, warehouse, and reporting layers
- Defining the contracts between your data and the applications and dashboards that use it
- Designing for reliability: refresh schedules, data consistency, failure recovery, and access controls
- Spotting gaps in requirements early and turning them into clear questions for the client
- Documenting and handing off so the system runs long after launch
What we're looking for Engineers who make the architecture decisions themselves, without waiting for someone to hand them a design. We're hiring at two levels:
- Senior: architects and builds major parts of a data platform, makes sound design decisions independently, and is on the path to leading projects.
- Staff: architects entire data engagements end to end, sets technical direction, and guides clients and teammates through ambiguity.
Required
- US Citizenship
- 5+ years of data engineering experience (Staff: 8+ years, including leading projects)
- Experience designing data platforms from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones
- Strong SQL and Python
- Production experience on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred)
- Track record of owning projects from requirements through production and handoff
- Comfortable working directly with clients and translating business needs into technical design
- Comfortable appearing on camera representing our team in client meetings
- Ability to work 40 hrs a week and attend a normal cadence of daytime (CST) meetings during the workday
Nice to Have
- Microsoft Fabric or Databricks experience
- Healthcare or health tech data experience
- Experience designing role-based access and data security around PHI
- Experience building dashboards and reporting layers
Behavioral Skills: · Makes design decisions independently and can explain the reasoning behind them · Sees risks early and raises them with a plan · Explains technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders · Present well on-camera, inspiring confidence in our clients · Respectfully navigate change request conversations with shifting deadlines and priorities
To be clear: This adds you to our contractor pool. Work is project-based and pulled from the pipeline as needs come up.
