Senior / Staff Data Platform Engineer,

Posted
Discussion

Summary

Builds and owns the internal data platform and open lakehouse (Iceberg/Delta Lake, Trino/Spark, Kubernetes, AWS/Redshift) for a Turkish investment app — secure multi-tenant infrastructure, batch/streaming pipelines, governance and observability. Remote within European time zones; fluent Turkish plus regular visits to the Istanbul office required.

Our client is one of Turkey’s leading investment apps and a licensed brokerage. More than 3.5 million people use it to invest in stocks, options, funds and crypto across Turkish, US and European markets. Behind that sits a lot of data: operational databases, Kafka streams and clickstream from millions of users, all landing in one analytical store in near real time.

The company has raised over $140M, including an $80M Series B led by a top-tier US fintech investor, the largest fintech round in Turkey to date. It is headquartered in Istanbul.

The role

The data platform team doesn’t touch business logic. It builds the platform and tools every other team uses for analytics. Today that runs on AWS and Redshift. Next, the company is building an open lakehouse that runs on any compute and object store, in the cloud or on its own hardware, with governance and security there from day one. You’ll own that build, working directly with the head of data engineering.

This role suits a Turkish-speaking engineer who knows how lakehouse systems work under the hood, not someone whose experience is mostly using Databricks or Snowflake.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build a secure, multi-tenant data platform with workload isolation, access control and governance, for both batch and real-time use
  • Keep the warehouse, storage and processing infrastructure above 99% uptime
  • Put full observability in place (monitoring, alerting and logging), so the same incident never happens twice
  • Enforce platform-wide access controls, audit logging, masking of sensitive data and secure defaults
  • Cut the manual work of the company’s data teams through automation, standards and self-service tooling

What you’ll need

  • Real experience building systems with Iceberg, Delta Lake or similar, and analytical engines like Trino, Spark or Doris
  • A deep grasp of the trade-offs between transactional, analytical and streaming processing, including row- and column-based storage
  • Batch and streaming pipelines that are observable, resilient and efficient
  • Confidence in Kubernetes-native environments and cloud data stacks
  • Clean, maintainable code, and fluency with Git and CI/CD
  • Fluent Turkish and English
  • Nice to have: time at a company that builds data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Starburst, AWS, Google Cloud), real-time analytics with Flink and Kafka, on-prem or hybrid experience, a regulated industry, or knowing how AI agents work with data

The company wants humble, hard-working owners. If “that’s not my job” sounds like something you’d say, this isn’t the role for you.

Location & logistics

Remote from anywhere in or near European time zones, with regular visits to the Istanbul office.
