Senior Staff Engineer, Firmware & Product Test (SSD)

The Senior / Staff Engineer, Firmware Test owns defined SSD firmware verification scope and drives test strategy, automation, failure analysis, and product readiness for SSD firmware features. This role develops comprehensive verification plans, leads white-box and grey-box testing approaches, analyzes regression failures, and resolves complex NAND, firmware, and system-level issues. This role collaborates closely with firmware development and cross-functional teams to improve code quality, ensure reliable product performance, and support enterprise and automotive SSD products through disciplined technical execution, mentoring, and clear stakeholder communication.

Main Responsibilities

  • Own comprehensive firmware verification plans for SSD firmware features and ensure appropriate coverage across functional, regression, and system-level test needs.

  • Develop white-box, grey-box, known, and closed-system test methods to verify and validate SSD firmware features.

  • Drive analysis of weekly regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and resolve NAND, firmware, and system-level issues in SSD products.

  • Manage test development, test deployment, test automation, and reporting activities to improve firmware quality and release readiness.

  • Participate in code reviews and guide the team to ensure comprehensive test coverage and alignment with firmware architecture.

  • Collaborate with firmware development engineers to improve code quality, debug complex issues, and strengthen validation practices.

Other Responsibilities

  • Communicate technical challenges, solutions, risks, and mitigation plans clearly to cross-functional teams and management.

  • Lead technical contributors as required and mentor less experienced engineers in firmware test development, debugging, and validation practices.

  • Support effective Agile development practices, Git development flow, branch management, automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.

  • Maintain strong working relationships across firmware, product test, validation, and system engineering teams.

AI Responsibilities

  • Integrates AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.

  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent.

  • Over 3 years of relevant experience in SSD firmware test development.

  • Comprehensive experience in SSD firmware testing and Python programming.

  • Experience validating and debugging NAND, firmware, and system-level issues in SSD products.

Technical Skills

  • SSD firmware testing, firmware verification planning, and test coverage analysis.

  • Python programming for test development, automation, regression analysis, and reporting.

  • Storage protocols and specifications, including PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI, and OCP.

  • NAND flash operation, SSD firmware components, and SSD system-level debugging.

  • Automated build, continuous integration, test automation systems, Agile development, Git development flow, and branch management.

Soft Skills

  • Structured problem-solving and analytical thinking.

  • Clear communication of technical and non-technical topics.

  • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to work independently and manage complex technical priorities.
