Staff/Senior Product Designer

Summary

Staff Product Designer embedded with engineers at a startup studio, owning the design of an AI-powered bid-analysis platform for heavy civil contractors. Daily work spans user research, spec writing in Linear, and rapid iteration — no PM layer.

What We’re Looking For
We only hire superstars — expect to be asked why you’re one.
Required
- A portfolio of shipped product design for complex, data-heavy tools — real products, real users,
not concept work
- Systems thinker — you design components and patterns, not one-off screens
- High ownership, speed, and comfort with ambiguity; you set your own bar
- Strong written and verbal English; clear async communication
Nice to have
- You can build what you design — front-end skills (React/Tailwind) are a big plus
- B2B SaaS, construction, or other industrial software. No construction background? Fine — if you
learn fast, the industry is learnable. The founder is your shortcut.

What we expect day to day
- You get problems, not tickets. There’s no PM. Tristan hands you a problem — “forecasting
zoom is rough,” “bid tab tables are inconsistent” — and you work it through yourself: dig into
the product, talk to users, explore options, come back with a spec engineers can build from.
Working through ambiguity is the job.
- You live in Linear with the engineers. ~3–4 engineers to one designer. Specs, explorations, and
decisions live in Linear, attached to the work. Daily standup; you show work-in-progress
constantly, not big reveals.
- You spend real time with customers. Customer calls and onboarding sessions weekly. Watch
estimators actually use the product. Design decisions here are defended with “I watched an
estimator do X” — not taste alone.
- You work in the open and take feedback straight. We are direct. You ship progress to the team
channel, present at reviews, and get honest feedback — including from the founder. We argue
about the work, decide fast, and move.
- You use AI aggressively. Everyone here uses AI daily for research, writing, analysis, and building.
Same bar for design.
