Senior / Staff Software Engineer - Dev Tooling / Productivity

Location: Sydney CBD (Full Relocation & Visa Sponsorship Provided)

Position Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Who is this for?

I'm partnering with a global Fin-Tech firm that treats its internal engineering team like its most important customers. Their DevEx squad is the absolute heart of their technology strategy.

They need a brilliant systems engineer to hit the ground running. Two things are non-negotiable:

  1. You live and breathe DevProd: This isn't a place to learn the philosophy of DevEx on the fly. You naturally spot workflow friction, hate slow feedback loops, and love building tools that help engineers ship code faster and happier.
  2. Mastery of C++ or Python: Whether you're a low-level C++ systems specialist or a heavyweight Python infrastructure developer, you have the technical depth to write high-performance tools for a world-class engineering org.
Genuinely Fun Puzzles You'll Solve

  • Monorepo Architecture: Modernising high-scale compilation tracks into hyper-fast, distributed Bazel and CMake frameworks.
  • Compiler Tuning: Getting under the hood of LLVM and Clang compiler passes and linkers to eliminate sneaky build bottlenecks.
  • Multi-Language Infra: Crafting zero-overhead native bindings (Pybind11) to connect performance-critical financial engines with quantitative data environments.
  • Loop Compression: Profiling test frameworks using concurrent design patterns to deliver notice-it-instantly speedups in daily developer validation loops.
  • AI Agent Integration: Experimenting with and deploying autonomous coding agents (Claude Code or custom LLM sub-agents) to automate repetitive refactoring and code health.
The Ideal Match

They value first-principles thinking over a checklist of tools, but you'll fit right in if you bring:

  • Pristine Fundamentals: Deep fluency in C++ or Python, with a solid understanding of what's happening close to the machine or run-time layer.
  • An Established DevProd Mindset: A proud history of building internal tools or optimising pipelines where your primary metric of success was engineering velocity.
  • Build System Curiosity: Commercial familiarity with, or a strong desire to master complex build architectures and graph dependencies.
Let's Chat

The culture here is flat, ego-free, and entirely engineering-driven. If you want a warm, collaborative environment where your work immediately impacts hundreds of developers, I'd love to connect. Please apply within or contact David at david.bolton(at)aurec.com
