Senior/Staff Software Engineer (Game Recording)
Summary
Senior/staff engineer on Medal.tv's Recorder team building the core Windows software that captures, encodes and records gameplay and powers auto-clipping game integrations. Hands-on across capture, hooks and encoding in C#, .NET Framework, C++ and win32, in-office in NYC five days a week.
- You’ll join the Recorder team as a senior engineer and work on the core of Medal: the software that captures, encodes and records gameplay on our users’ machines, including game integrations that power features like auto clipping
- Engineers from other teams (Game Integrations, Front End and interns) regularly contribute to the recorder codebase, so a big part of this role is making that safe and easy. You’ll design and architect solutions a team can maintain, set up guardrails and best practices, and help the codebase mature so anyone can make changes cleanly and with confidence
- This is hands-on work across the recorder stack: capture, hooks, encoding and game integrations. We want someone who likes working across the whole system and sharing what they know, not someone who owns one silo
- Our Stack: Our team works primarily in C#, .NET Framework, C++, and GitHub actions
- We collaborate closely with our sister teams: front end (Electron/React), back end (Java), and infrastructure (Terraform)
- Confident using C#, .NET Framework, and win32 in performance-critical contexts
- Gaming: a passion for games and gaming communities, and a user of Discord and other gaming products
- In-person: we’re hiring in NYC to work alongside the product team, 5 days a week in the office
- Proven software engineering expertise: you’ve built maintainable, extensible systems
- Result-driven: everything we do is driven by the metrics and performance of the feature, we move fast and ship regularly
- A collaborative, team-first mindset: you share knowledge, pair with others and help the team avoid single points of failure
- C/C++
- Graphics APIs e.g. DX11, DX12 and Vulkan
- Reverse engineering, hooking/injection, modding
- Game engines
