Leads the technical design and architecture of Gusto’s Commerce Platform, focusing on pricing, subscriptions, and entitlements, while mentoring engineers and improving system reliability.
You will lead the technical design and delivery of Gusto’s Commerce Platform. You will own architecture for product catalog, promotion, subscription, and entitlement systems; drive platform adoption; deliver complex projects; improve observability and reliability; support incident response; mentor engineers; and partner with marketing and business teams on commerce tooling.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical design and architecture for the Commerce Platform
- Define the technical roadmap
- Drive platform adoption
- Deliver complex projects from scoping through post-launch iteration
- Mentor engineers through design reviews and code reviews
- Use AI tools to accelerate engineering
- Improve observability reliability and performance
- Define and track SLOs
- Lead incident response
- Conduct post-mortems
- Evolve self-serve commerce management systems
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years in a tech lead or staff engineer role
- Mastery of at least one programming language
- Large-scale backend platform systems
