Senior Staff Systems Architect – Data Quality
Senior Staff Systems Architect – Data Quality
Location: San Diego, CA
Job Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Salary: $180,000 - $195,000
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Staff Systems Architect – Data Quality to join our rapidly growing team. You will be at the heart of our efforts to develop a high-throughput sample-to-answer platform. You will work with a diverse group of scientists and engineers to ensure that the system generates the highest possible quality data at the maximum achievable rate. This will require developing models and budgets describing key aspects of our platform including signal-to-noise ratio, throughput, and runtime. When the performance of the system does not match the expectations of the model, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team to identify root causes and resolve the issue. You will use a data-based approach to identify critical parameters; model expected outcomes and analyze experimental results. You will use the tools you build attacking problems to create metrology and diagnostics systems that will monitor system health and alert the team to potential problems before they happen.
The problems that we will overcome are varied and subtle, requiring a combination of creative thinking and thoughtful implementation of well-known problem-solving techniques. The ideal candidate is an analytical polyglot – able and willing to contribute to a diverse set of challenges ranging from sensor crosstalk nonuniformity to differential oligo binding affinities.
Responsibilities
- Own system-level models for data quality, signal-to-noise ratio, throughput and other key performance metrics.
- Analyze and resolve complicated integration challenges involving hardware, software, biology, and informatics using a data-based approach.
- Lead multi-disciplinary structured problem-solving teams as needed to resolve the most serious issues.
- Design and perform systematic experiments to identify critical parameters and optimize performance and reliability.
- Develop metrics and diagnostics to guide the work of the hardware and chemistry teams and give them key insights into the results of their experiments.
Qualifications
- BS, with 12+ years, MS with 10+, or PhD with 6+ years of experience in Biophysics, Physics, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in data analysis, experimental design and integration of complex scientific platforms required.
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, scientific, and informatics teams.
- Experience developing and owning system-level models and budgets of complex biological research platforms.
- Experience using AI tools to quickly prototype and deploy analysis pipelines.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++ or similar language.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with genomic data including FASTQ, BAM, VCF and related filetypes.
- Familiarity with high-resolution optical systems and associated data pipelines.
- Experience with Critical Parameters Management (CPM), Six Sigma, Quality by Design (QbD), or similar methodologies.
- Record of innovation through publications, patents, or open-source contributions.
Why Join Us
