Senior Structural Engineer, Design Automation
Job Description:
The Senior Structural Engineer, Design Automation will be based in Hyderabad, India. In this position, you will report to Senior Manager- Structural Engineering. In this role, the candidate will contribute to the structural design and development and will be part of the team responsible for structural R&D activities at Nextpower. The ideal candidate will possess strong structural engineering fundamentals with the ability to perform load calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), develop structural analysis models, and support component testing to ensure products meet applicable performance and design standards prior to release.
The candidate is also expected to have a good understanding of programming and design automation, with the ability to develop and improve engineering calculation tools and workflows. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate structural engineering, product development, testing, and design automation efforts.

Here is a glimpse of what you will do:
- Contribute to the design and development of the next generation of Nextpower tracking products.
- Perform structural design and analysis of tracker components and evaluate their structural behaviour.
- Estimate and evaluate structural loading conditions, including dead, live, wind, snow, and seismic loads.
- Perform wind speed and wind load calculations for structures in accordance with applicable standards, including IS 875 and ASCE 7.
- Design structures and components for wind and seismic forces, considering both static and dynamic behaviour.
- Perform failure-mode analysis based on product testing, field observations, and reverse engineering.
- Perform member and connection design, including bolted, welded, and riveted connections, in accordance with applicable standards such as IS 800, IS 875, ASCE, ACI, and AISI.
- Support material testing, component testing, and reliability analysis of steel products.
- Develop, maintain, and improve standardized engineering calculation and design automation tools to support product development, bids, and sales activities.
- Apply programming and automation techniques to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of structural engineering workflows.
- Perform and manage engineering analyses using structural engineering software to solve problems involving structural and mechanical design, finite element analysis, design optimization, fatigue, structural dynamics, kinematics, vibration, and other relevant engineering disciplines.
- Develop and validate analytical and finite element models against test data where applicable.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, proposals, and technical papers.
- Participate in brainstorming and design-review sessions with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate concepts for future products.
- Develop and maintain engineering best practices that promote innovation, design consistency, and efficient product development.
- Identify and implement continuous-improvement opportunities to improve the efficiency and quality of the structural design process.
Here is some of what you will need (required):
- Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering with excellent academic record
- (3-5) years of experience in structural analysis and engineering software such as Staadpro, SolidWorks, RISA, ETABS, ANSYS, or similar tools
- Strong knowledge of structural dynamics, analysis, and design.
- Experience in the design of structural members, including columns, beams, plates, and girders, as well as connection design in accordance with applicable standards such as IS 800, IS 875, ASCE, ACI, and AISI.
- Strong engineering aptitude and intuition for structural and mechanical failure analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with structural steel, sheet metal, and/or cold-formed steel sections.
- Experience in wind engineering, wind-load evaluation, and/or wind testing.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB, with an interest in engineering design automation.
- Working knowledge of Agentic AI frameworks and their potential application to engineering workflows.
- Experience with the Open Sees/Open Sees Py environment is a strong advantage.
