Senior Supervisor, Storage, Backup, and Archiving Administration
Purpose of the job
Responsible to provide the necessary storage and backup services, ensuring high availability and optimum performance. Developing and enhancing the performance for storage and backup systems. Administering and maintaining storage and backup systems, SAN switches and archiving systems. Automate daily operational tasks. Manage storage and backup migrations and related projects. Act as a mentor to other team members and a technical reference.
Duties and responsibilities
- Administer storage and SAN systems including performance monitoring, systems initialization and onboarding.
- Demonstrated ability to support storage and backup infrastructure services hardware, operating system, and software platforms.
- Administer backup and archiving systems including performance monitoring, systems initialization and onboarding.
- Troubleshoot and investigate complex problems.
- Define and specify architecture protocols and functional requirements and specifications for storage and backup components.
- Maintain technical awareness of developments within the backup and storage technology industry and evaluate new technologies.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure and support areas such as storage, database, networks, backups, security, and operating systems.
- Co-operate with project managers and consultants to achieve project goals.
- Participate in capacity planning and performance discussions and assist in development and execution of disaster recovery exercises.
- Knowledge of data migration strategies and tools for transferring data.
- Lead implementations of new storage systems.
- Carry out storage migrations as per plans laid out by the architecture and planning teams.
- Manage the daily activities of all enterprise storage systems.
- Initiate internal projects in coordination with architecture and planning teams.
- Supervise the backup procedures and ensure backups are executed and tested as per schedules.
Job specification
Education
- Bachelor degree in computer engineering or similar discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in system administration, infrastructure management, and IT operations.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a senior system administration role, managing enterprise IT environments, servers, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Experience in data lifecycle management and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong expertise in automation, scripting, and monitoring tools to improve system efficiency and reliability.
- Experience leading technical projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Previous involvement in system migrations, upgrades, and high-availability solutions.
