THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer – Thermal Components to join the Component Quality & Reliability team. In this highly visible role, you will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for driving the quality and reliability of thermal components and cooling solutions from concept through end-of-life. You will partner closely with thermal component suppliers, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure thermal solutions meet AMD's quality, reliability, manufacturability, and performance requirements while reducing product risk and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
This role is ideal for an experienced supplier quality engineer with a strong background in thermal engineering, liquid cooling technologies, heat transfer components, or thermal component manufacturing, who is passionate about driving quality across a global supplier network.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced supplier quality professional with deep expertise in thermal components, thermal manufacturing processes, or thermal engineering, along with component reliability and supplier quality management. You have experience working with liquid cooling systems, cold plates, heat sinks, vapor chambers, thermal interface materials (TIMs), pumps, manifolds, radiators, or other thermal management technologies used in high-performance computing or similar industries.
You are comfortable leading technical discussions with global suppliers, driving complex root cause investigations, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, sourcing, operations, and quality organizations. You thrive in fast-paced environments, excel at balancing multiple priorities, and are passionate about continuous improvement and delivering world-class product quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the primary quality interface for strategic suppliers supporting AMD's thermal components and cooling solutions.
- Lead supplier quality issue resolution for thermal components, driving root cause analysis, containment actions, corrective actions (8D), and long-term improvements.
- Develop quality and reliability requirements for thermal components and liquid cooling hardware in partnership with cross-functional engineering teams and ensure supplier compliance with AMD specifications.
- Lead mass production readiness reviews, including supplier manufacturing assessments and on-site factory audits for thermal component suppliers.
- Define and monitor supplier quality KPIs throughout product development, production ramp, and end-of-life.
- Partner with Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Package Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure supplier manufacturing capabilities meet AMD Design for Manufacturability (DFM) requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in supplier quality, outgoing DPPM performance, reliability, manufacturing capability, and process controls for thermal component suppliers.
- Collaborate closely with sourcing, thermal engineering, package reliability, board engineering, operations, quality leadership, and business units to support successful product launches.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems for thermal components to ensure consistent product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Thermal Engineering supporting thermal components, liquid cooling systems, or thermal management solutions.
- Hands-on experience working with thermal component vendors or manufacturers of cold plates, heat sinks, vapor chambers, thermal interface materials (TIMs), pumps, manifolds, radiators, heat exchangers, or other liquid cooling technologies.
- Strong understanding of thermal component manufacturing processes, quality controls, and reliability considerations.
- Experience developing process quality plans, conducting supplier quality audits, and qualifying manufacturing processes for thermal components.
- Strong background leading 8D investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, failure analysis, reliability testing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with process capability analysis, measurement system analysis (GR&R, AR&R), cross-cavity validation, and process qualification.
- Proven supplier-facing experience with the ability to build strong relationships and influence technical and business decisions across multiple organizational levels.
- Experience collaborating with Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or Product Development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Experience working with international OEMs and contract manufacturers.
- Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple priorities in a global matrix organization.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and continuous improvement mindset.
- Willingness to travel internationally to supplier sites up to 25%.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Thermal Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
