Senior Support Engineer, Level 2/3 MSP | Balcatta, Perth
Salary: $85k - $110k plus super
Most MSPs hire a senior engineer once they're already drowning. This one is hiring while the water's calm.
The same goes for the platform. A lot of MSPs build theirs while they're flat out with clients, and their senior engineers spend years cleaning up after it. This one did it the other way round. The private cloud and the phone platform were built first, on enterprise kit.
If you're a senior Level 2 who's been handling the Level 3 work for a while, or a Level 3 who wants variety back after being parked in one specialty, this is worth a look. It's the senior support seat in a smaller team: workstations, servers, networks, virtualisation and phones, often in the same week.
What your week looks like
- You're the escalation point. The tickets that need a deeper look land with you, and you see them through to the fix.
- Virtualisation across Hyper-V, VMware and their own Proxmox private cloud, so you're working on the platform as well as the endpoints.
- Network and server administration, plus implementation work with projects.
- The juniors come to you for advice, and the knowledgebase articles you write are the ones they lean on.
- One to two days a week from home once you're through probation.
Who you're working beside
One of the directors had a big hand in building the private cloud and the communications platform, and is one of the best MSP engineers in Perth. A good teacher too, so senior here doesn't mean you've stopped learning. As the business grows there may be a team lead role down the track, for the person who earns it.
About the company
A smaller Perth MSP and managed security provider looking after businesses in professional services, health and aged care, mining and not-for-profit. They hire on respect and on owning it when things don't go to plan, and everyone's voice counts regardless of title.
What you'll bring
- Three or more years in IT support, a good part of it at an MSP across multiple clients
- Real depth across the stack: M365 (Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams), Windows Server (AD, DNS, SQL, IIS, RDS), Hyper-V or VMware, and networking past the basics (VLANs, STP, LAG)
- The habit of running your own day without anyone checking in
- Documentation someone else could follow without ringing you
Proxmox, VoIP administration, Veeam or ShadowProtect, ConnectWise or Kaseya, incident response and Microsoft or Fortinet certs all help. None of them is a must.
Worth knowing before you apply: the interview is technical and broad, with quick-fire questions across servers, networks, virtualisation and M365. Breadth matters.
Hit apply and I'll give you a call.
