Senior System Analyst, Managed Services
Summary
A senior SQL Server DBA role in a managed-services setting: the person administers mission-critical SQL Server 2016–2022 environments for multiple customers, handling installation, upgrades, performance tuning, security, HA/DR, backups, and migrations across on-premises, AWS, and Azure, while working with clients via ticketing tools and rotational/on-call shifts.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Analyst, Managed Services based in India.
As a Senior System Analyst, you’ll take ownership of critical Microsoft SQL Server database environments supporting enterprise applications across complex, multi-customer settings. You’ll lead database administration activities spanning installation, upgrades, performance tuning, security, and high availability/disaster recovery. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with responsibility for migrations, production support, and operational reliability across on-premises and cloud platforms. You’ll work with technologies including AWS and Azure while partnering with application, infrastructure, network, and business teams. You’ll also interact directly with clients, manage incidents through service-management tools, and coordinate technical resolutions. Working in a fast-paced managed-services environment, you’ll be expected to troubleshoot complex issues and maintain high service standards. Accountabilities:
- SQL Server Administration: Install, configure, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server 2016–2022 environments across enterprise and multi-customer platforms.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, and other high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Cloud Database Management: Configure and maintain SQL Server environments across on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms including AWS RDS/EC2 and Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance.
- Backup & Recovery: Manage backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery processes while validating backup integrity and maintaining reliable recovery strategies.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitor database performance, investigate blocking, deadlocks, wait statistics, and execution-plan issues, and implement appropriate tuning and indexing strategies.
- Patching & Upgrades: Plan and execute SQL Server patching, upgrades, and version migrations while minimising service disruption.
- Database Migrations: Coordinate and execute code, schema, table, and data migrations across customer environments and platforms.
- Security: Implement and maintain database security controls, including permissions, TDE, Row-Level Security, auditing, and security hardening practices.
- Automation & Maintenance: Configure SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, maintenance plans, and automated DBA processes using T-SQL and PowerShell where appropriate.
- Disaster Recovery: Participate in and lead DR planning, testing, and execution for customer environments.
- Client & Stakeholder Support: Communicate professionally with clients and collaborate with application, infrastructure, network, and development teams to resolve technical issues.
- Service Management: Use ticketing and service-management platforms such as ServiceNow to track incidents, requests, investigations, and resolutions.
- Vendor Coordination: Open and manage technical support cases with Microsoft, AWS, and Azure when specialist assistance is required.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve database reliability, operational processes, monitoring, automation, and service delivery.
- Operational Flexibility: Work rotational shifts and participate in on-call or project support activities according to business and customer requirements.
- Professional Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA, supporting production environments through installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- SQL Server Expertise: Strong experience with SQL Server 2016–2022 and enterprise database administration in complex, multi-customer environments.
- High Availability & DR: Proven experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, and Mirroring.
- Cloud Experience: Experience administering SQL Server in AWS RDS/EC2 and/or Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance is highly desirable.
- Backup & Recovery: Strong knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, including native and third-party tools such as Redgate or Quest LiteSpeed, as well as point-in-time recovery.
- Performance Tuning: Solid understanding of execution-plan analysis, indexing, wait-statistics analysis, blocking, deadlocks, and database performance monitoring.
- Database Security: Experience with SQL Server security hardening, Transparent Data Encryption, auditing, permissions, and compliance requirements.
- Scripting & Automation: Working knowledge of T-SQL and PowerShell for automating routine DBA tasks.
- Additional Technologies: Experience with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SolarWinds, SentryOne/SQL Sentry, or Redgate Monitor is advantageous.
- Enterprise Applications: Experience supporting ERP or other mission-critical enterprise applications on SQL Server is a plus.
- Managed Services: Previous experience in a managed-services, offshore/onshore delivery, or multi-client support model is highly desirable.
- Problem Solving: Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and root-cause analysis skills, particularly in fast-paced production environments.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and cross-functional technical teams.
- Independence & Collaboration: Comfortable working independently while collaborating with application, infrastructure, network, development, and business teams.
- Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics, or an equivalent certification is a plus.
