Senior System Engineer

Summary

Maintain and secure enterprise servers, virtualization platforms, and network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and compliance with proactive monitoring and patching.

Responsibilities

Systems & Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Maintain and support enterprise servers, endpoints, virtualization platforms and network infrastructure.

  • Perform routine hardware and infrastructure maintenance.

  • Administer Windows Server, Linux and virtualized environments.

  • Ensure high system availability, reliability and service continuity.

  • Perform routine health checks and preventive maintenance activities.

Preventive Maintenance & Monitoring

  • Perform scheduled system maintenance, operating system patching and firmware updates.

  • Monitor server, storage and infrastructure health using monitoring tools.

  • Review system logs and alerts to identify potential issues proactively.

  • Verify backup jobs and perform restoration testing.

  • Monitor system capacity and recommend improvements before service degradation occurs.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve server, operating system, virtualization and network-related issues.

  • Provide Level 1 to Level 3 infrastructure support where applicable.

  • Respond to incidents, outages and service disruptions within SLA.

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Escalate complex issues to vendors where necessary.

Cybersecurity & Access Management

  • Perform Windows and Linux security patching.

  • Apply security hardening policies and system configuration baselines.

  • Monitor system vulnerabilities and security risks.

  • Manage Active Directory accounts, security groups and access permissions.

  • Support cybersecurity compliance, vulnerability remediation and audit activities.

System Administration & Configuration

  • Administer and maintain:

    • VMware vCenter and ESXi

    • Windows Server

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

    • Active Directory / Domain Services

    • Veeam Backup & Replication

  • Deploy, configure and maintain enterprise applications and infrastructure services.

  • Maintain server configurations and system standards.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Administer and monitor Veeam Backup & Replication.

  • Perform backup verification and restoration testing.

  • Support disaster recovery planning and recovery exercises.

  • Ensure backup policies comply with business requirements.

Documentation & Asset Management

  • Maintain infrastructure documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Maintain hardware and software asset inventories.

  • Update network diagrams, system architecture documentation and configuration records.

  • Record incidents, maintenance activities and change records.

Change Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Support system upgrades, migrations and infrastructure enhancement projects.

  • Implement approved changes following change management procedures.

  • Identify recurring issues and recommend long-term improvement initiatives.

  • Optimize infrastructure performance, availability and operational efficiency.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Coordinate with hardware, software and maintenance vendors.

  • Manage warranty claims, repairs and maintenance contracts.

  • Monitor vendor performance against agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Evaluate technical solutions and recommend infrastructure improvements.

Requirements

Experience supporting Windows and Linux operating systems, including OS patching and system hardening.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Systems Maintenance, Infrastructure Support, System Administration or IT Operations.

  • Hands-on experience with VMware vCenter, ESXi, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Veeam Backup & Replication.

  • Knowledge of Active Directory, virtualization, backup and recovery, and enterprise server infrastructure.

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs and switching).

  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis and incident management skills.

  • Good communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently and coordinate with vendors.

  • Willing to participate in standby or after-office-hours support when required.
