The Organisation

Banzpay is a customer centric, growing payments technology provider delivering secure, 24/7 payment infrastructure across New Zealand and the Pacific. Our systems support critical financial services, so availability, resilience, security and disciplined delivery matter in everything we do.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Auckland CBD technology team. This is a hands-on senior role with scope across our on-premises data-centre environment and our growing Microsoft Azure footprint.

You will combine operational ownership with project delivery and continuous improvement, keeping current platforms reliable today while helping to design and implement environments for the future. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, you will work closely with the Network / Security, ITIL, Risk, Application and Payments Teams, as well as external partners.

In Banzpay, security is not a separate workstream, but we are looking for someone who naturally considers security in architecture, configuration, access, automation, change and day-to-day operations.

Because we support services that operate around the clock, some planned project work or critical support may occasionally fall outside normal business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take senior-level ownership of the health, performance and ongoing improvement of Banzpay's hybrid infrastructure environment, driving outcomes through to completion and escalating risks, blockers or delays early where delivery is at risk.

  • Design and deliver infrastructure upgrades, migrations and new capabilities across on-premises platforms and Azure.

  • Ensure systems are secure, available, supportable and resilient, with appropriate monitoring, capacity, backup and recovery arrangements.

  • Investigate complex technical issues, lead root-cause analysis and implement practical, lasting improvements.

  • Use automation and standardisation to reduce manual effort, improve consistency and make the environment easier to operate.

  • Maintain clear technical documentation and contribute to architecture standards, operational procedures and lifecycle planning.

  • Participate in change, incident and problem management, disaster recovery testing, and other resilience activities.

  • Work constructively with internal teams, technology vendors and service providers to deliver reliable outcomes.

What You Will Bring

  • Substantial hands-on experience designing, operating and improving enterprise infrastructure in complex production environments.

  • Broad capability across on-premises infrastructure together with solid, practical experience in Microsoft Azure.

  • A security-first engineering mindset and the judgement to balance security, resilience, operability and business needs.

  • A collaborative and practical approach, strong personal accountability, and a proven ability to take ownership of outcomes, communicate risks early, and follow work through to completion.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to escalate issues appropriately, provide timely updates, and represent the technology team during incidents and service-impacting events.

  • Experience in a 24/7, regulated or high-availability environment would be valuable. Payments or financial services experience, and relevant Microsoft or infrastructure certifications, are useful but not essential.

What We Bring in Exchange

We are a fast-paced company where you will be part of important projects and initiatives - no two days are quite the same, and your contribution will be visible. You will have genuine scope to influence how our infrastructure evolves and how we work as an engineering team.

We also bring:

  • An attractive package including health and life insurance.

  • A spacious, stylish office with an industrial edge and plenty of room for collaboration, focused work and fun.

  • A central Auckland location close to public transport, shops and eateries.

  • A pool table, table tennis, a bar and Friday drinks covered for you.
