Senior Systems Testing/QA Specialist
Summary
Senior QA specialist who leads end-to-end testing of large-scale systems: defining test strategies, running manual and automated functional/regression tests (Selenium, Cypress, UFT, Postman), performance testing with JMeter/LoadRunner, SQL-based data validation, and defect tracking in JIRA/Azure DevOps within Agile teams. Toronto-based role; FHIR healthcare interoperability knowledge is a plus.
Role Overview
The QA Specialist will lead and execute end-to-end testing activities across large-scale systems, ensuring quality, performance, and compliance. This role involves developing test strategies, executing manual and automated tests, managing defects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in Agile environments.
Key Responsibilities
Testing Strategy & Planning
- Define testing strategies, test plans, and resource requirements
- Plan and manage testing for GUI and non-GUI systems
- Establish entry/exit criteria and testing scope
Test Development & Execution
- Develop and execute:
- Test plans, test cases, and test scripts
- Functional, integration, system, and regression tests
- Support UAT, including test data setup and execution
- Validate system behaviour under multiple conditions
Automation & Tools
- Build and maintain automated test scripts using:
- Selenium, UFT, TestComplete, Postman
- Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines
Defect Management
- Identify, log, and track defects using tools like Azure DevOps, JIRA, ALM
- Manage defects based on severity and priority
- Participate in defect triage and resolution
Performance & Data Testing
- Conduct performance, stress, and load testing (JMeter, LoadRunner)
- Validate data integrity, migration, and transformation
- Perform backend/database testing using SQL (Oracle preferred)
Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Work closely with developers, BAs, and PMs
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
- Support documentation, release notes, and reporting
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure adherence to QA standards and SDLC practices
- Apply knowledge of AODA accessibility standards
- Support regulatory and security testing requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Core QA Expertise
- Strong experience in system testing and QA methodologies
- Hands-on experience in:
- Functional, integration, regression, and UAT testing
- Proven ability to design and execute complex test plans
Automation & Tools
- Experience with:
- Selenium / Cypress / UFT / TestComplete
- API tools (Postman, SOAP UI, Swagger)
- Familiarity with CI/CD integration
Defect & Test Management
- Experience with:
- JIRA, ALM, TestRail, Bugzilla, Zephyr
- Strong defect lifecycle management skills
Technical Skills
- SQL expertise for data validation (Oracle preferred)
- Understanding of scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, Bash)
- Experience in test data management strategies
Performance Testing
- Hands-on with JMeter or LoadRunner
- Ability to analyze performance bottlenecks
Domain Knowledge
- Knowledge of FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) (preferred)
- Experience with COTS applications
- Understanding of accessibility standards (AODA)
