Location: This is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Portland, Maine. New employees typically work full-time in the office during their first year to build relationships and become integrated with the team, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule afterward if preferred. Our employee-first environment also provides flexibility when personal needs arise.

Note: Candidates must have 8+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience, including meaningful leadership, client management, and complex tax engagement experience. An active CPA license or equivalent qualification such as an EA is required. Public accounting experience is a must.

Job Description

  • Review complex tax returns with an emphasis on S Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals.
  • Advise closely held businesses and individual clients on sophisticated tax planning strategies.
  • Lead complex client engagements from planning through completion while maintaining high standards for quality and responsiveness.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and translate complex tax matters into practical, actionable guidance.
  • Lead, coach, train, and mentor tax professionals while supporting their technical and career development.
  • Partner with firm leadership to structure and oversee a variety of tax and advisory engagements.
  • Develop specialized expertise across industries including automotive dealerships, construction, real estate, manufacturing, and other commercial businesses.
  • Research complex federal and state tax matters and develop thoughtful solutions based on tax law and client objectives.
  • Manage multiple engagements and deadlines while ensuring excellent client service and efficient execution.
  • Help strengthen a collaborative, people-first team culture focused on client success and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
  • Prior Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, or comparable leadership experience.
  • Active CPA license or equivalent qualification such as an EA.
  • Strong technical knowledge of S Corporation, Partnership, and Individual taxation.
  • Experience advising closely held businesses and their owners.
  • Proven experience managing complex tax engagements and client relationships.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-development skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess, Caseware, CCH Fixed Assets, or comparable tax software preferred.
