Role Overview

As a Senior Consultant specializing in Google Cloud Platform, you will be a core hands-on member of our Google Cloud consulting practice. You will help clients through their cloud adoption journey, owning the design and delivery of defined workstreams that result in scalable, secure and cost-effective solutions, including migrating workloads to Google Cloud and modernizing them once they are there. As an AI-native practitioner with an AI-first mindset, you continuously leverage AI tools and methodologies to innovate and solve complex technical challenges.

This is a hands-on role focused on delivery. You will work under the direction of Principal Consultants and Delivery Managers, take ownership of your technical work end to end, and be client-facing and billable for most of your time. Our clients span financial services, fintech and enterprise, many in regulated environments. You will grow toward Principal Consultant by building depth, delivery judgment and client trust.

We are an engineering-focused team that pairs expert technical skills with keen business acumen, and each member adds unique value to the business and the customer. We aim to be second-to-none in cloud consulting, in a positive and supportive environment that lets people do their best work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engagement Scoping and Planning

  • Collaborate with client stakeholders, sales, engineering and project management to understand client needs and define scope and timelines.
  • Contribute to accurate Level of Effort (LoE) estimates for your workstreams, aligned to project goals and profitability targets.
  • Assess client environments, including application and infrastructure inventory and dependencies, and recommend optimal GCP architectures and migration approaches.
  • Identify technical risks early and propose mitigation strategies.

2. Solution Design and Implementation

  • Actively participate in the design, development and deployment of GCP-based solutions within the agreed target architecture.
  • Provide hands-on expertise in infrastructure as code (Terraform), automation, CI/CD pipelines, landing zones and application modernization on GCP.
  • Plan and carry out migrations of workloads, databases and data to Google Cloud, including runbooks, cutover, validation and hypercare, using tools such as Migrate to Virtual Machines and Database Migration Service.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on GCP services including Compute Engine, GKE, Migration services, BigQuery, Cloud Storage and IAM.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, escalating risks and blockers early to the Principal Consultant or Delivery Manager.
  • Produce clear technical documentation: design documents, as-built records and operational handover materials.

3. Technical Guidance and Client Collaboration

  • Lead technical discussions for your workstreams, explaining GCP concepts and trade-offs clearly to client teams.
  • Document target architectures, technical standards and implementation details for the work you deliver.
  • Run working sessions with client engineers to gather requirements, address concerns and demonstrate progress.
  • Build strong relationships with client technical stakeholders and flag follow-on opportunities to the Principal Consultant or account team.
  • Apply an AI-first approach to solution design and delivery, championing generative AI tools, intelligent automation, and agentic workflows to accelerate project execution and drive innovation for clients.

4. Quality and Best Practices

  • Follow and contribute to team standards, GCP best practices and the Google Cloud Architecture Framework.
  • Participate in peer reviews of code, designs and deliverables.
  • Contribute to reusable accelerators, templates and runbooks, including for migration engagements.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and support the development of junior consultants.

5. Security and Compliance

  • Implement security controls in line with client and regulatory requirements, using GCP's native security controls, including encryption, key management, VPC Service Controls and audit logging.
  • Apply data residency and access requirements in platform and migration designs, with guidance on regulations such as PIPEDA and OSFI guidelines.
  • Support security assessments and remediate findings in client environments on GCP.

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on experience designing, building and operating solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience delivering migrations to GCP from on-premises, VMware or other clouds, ideally across multiple waves or programs.
  • Familiarity with GCP migration tooling such as Migrate to Virtual Machines, Database Migration Service and Migration Center.
  • Experience building landing zones and foundations on GCP, including resource hierarchy, shared VPC, hybrid connectivity (Interconnect, VPN) and organization policy.
  • Experience containerizing and replatforming applications on GKE and Cloud Run, and working with data and analytics services such as Cloud SQL, BigQuery or Dataflow.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills (Python, Go, shell) and proficiency in Terraform or equivalent infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Solid networking fundamentals and a working understanding of GCP IAM.
  • Awareness of cost optimization and FinOps practices for GCP workloads.

Delivery and Collaboration Skills

  • Proven ability to take ownership of technical workstreams and deliver them on time and to a high standard.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including documenting designs and presenting to client technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the judgment to escalate risks early.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative, client-facing team.
  • Willingness to mentor junior consultants and share knowledge.

Compliance and Security

  • Working knowledge of cloud security best practices and how to apply them in GCP.
  • Experience implementing secure cloud environments, ideally in regulated industries such as banking, insurance or healthcare.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, mainframe or SAP workloads, or with Google Cloud VMware Engine.
  • Demonstrated track record as an AI-native engineer with experience applying AI-assisted development tools, agentic workflows, and Google Cloud Vertex AI / Foundation Models to daily delivery.
  • Prior experience at a Google Cloud partner or a systems integrator; familiarity with AWS or Azure; PMP, Scrum Master or similar certifications.

Metrics of Success

  • Assigned GCP workstreams delivered on schedule, to quality and within estimate.
  • Smooth migration cutovers with minimal post-go-live incidents.
  • Positive feedback from clients and project leads.
  • Accurate estimates and status reporting for your own work.
