Description

KEY OBJECTIVE

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Automation QA Engineer to accelerate quality delivery across Chubb Travel Insurance digital products. You will lead automation efforts using Playwright as the primary framework, champion AI-augmented testing practices, and work closely with developers, product owners, and platform engineers to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle. This is an individual contributor role with meaningful influence on tooling choices, automation strategy, and team quality culture.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Automation Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain a scalable end-to-end test automation framework using Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript).

  • Develop and maintain API test suites using Playwright APIRequestContext or Postman/Newman, covering REST and SOAP services.

  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions), enforcing quality gates at every stage.

  • Maintain test data strategies and environment configurations to support reliable, repeatable test execution.

  • Produce clear automation reports, dashboards, and metrics to communicate coverage and quality health to stakeholders.

AI-Augmented Testing

  • Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Mabl, Testim, Applitools, or LLM-based test generation) to accelerate test authoring and maintenance.

  • Apply AI/ML techniques for intelligent test case prioritisation, self-healing locators, and anomaly detection in test results.

  • Stay current with emerging AI testing capabilities and evaluate their applicability to the Travel Insurance tech stack.

  • Contribute to establishing guardrails and best practices for responsible AI usage within the QA lifecycle.

Functional & Non-Functional Testing

  • Analyse business requirements, identify gaps, and ensure comprehensive test coverage across functional modules.

  • Execute and oversee regression, smoke, sanity, integration, and UAT testing cycles.

  • Contribute to performance and load testing using tools such as k6 or JMeter where required.

  • Validate security-related test scenarios and flag vulnerabilities in collaboration with the security team.

  • Work with business analysts and product owners on acceptance criteria definition and acceptance testing.

Collaboration & Quality Culture

  • Champion shift-left quality practices: embed QA thinking into planning, design, and development stages.

  • Partner with developers during defect triage, root cause analysis, and test-driven development initiatives.

  • Contribute to test plan creation, estimation, and risk-based testing strategies.

  • Mentor junior QA team members and promote automation best practices across the team.

  • Communicate risks, defect trends, and coverage status clearly to delivery leads and stakeholders.

EXPERIENCE

Must-Have

  • 4+ years of software testing experience, with at least 2 years focused on test automation.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright (TypeScript or JavaScript) for UI and API test automation.

  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

  • Proficiency in API testing (REST/SOAP) using Playwright, Postman, or equivalent tooling.

  • Good command of SQL for data validation and query-based test verification.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.

  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a quality-first mindset.

  • Excellent communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English.

Strong Advantage

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted testing tools or LLM-based test generation (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Applitools, Mabl, Testim).

  • Familiarity with performance testing tools (k6, JMeter) or security testing basics (OWASP).

  • Experience in the insurance or financial services domain, particularly travel insurance products.

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure; Azure certification is a plus.

  • Exposure to contract testing (e.g. Pact) and observability tooling (Dynatrace, Azure App Insights).

  • Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber/Gherkin) integrated with Playwright.

  • Familiarity with ISTQB testing standards; ISTQB Foundation or Advanced certification is a plus.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Test Automation: Playwright (primary), Selenium (secondary), Cypress (awareness)

  • Languages: TypeScript / JavaScript (required); Java or Python (advantage)

  • API Testing: Playwright APIRequestContext, Postman / Newman, REST Assured

  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions

  • AI Tools: GitHub Copilot, AI-driven test platforms (Mabl, Testim, Applitools or equivalent)

  • Databases: MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle - SQL query skills required

  • Performance: k6 / JMeter (advantage)

  • Defect Tracking: JIRA, Azure Boards

  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure (advantage)

  • Methodology: Agile / Scrum, Shift-Left, BDD

SOFT SKILLS

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

  • Self-motivated and able to take ownership of tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Analytical mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving.

  • Adaptable and willing to work across time zones during critical delivery windows.

  • Customer-centric attitude with a consultative approach to resolving quality issues.

  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and continuously improving processes.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (FIRST 12 MONTHS)

  • Playwright automation suite covers the critical happy paths and regression scenarios for core Travel Insurance products.

  • Automated tests are fully integrated into CI/CD pipelines with clear pass/fail quality gates.

  • At least one AI-assisted testing tool evaluated and adopted or piloted within the team.

  • Defect escape rate to production measurably reduced compared to the baseline.

  • Test execution time reduced through parallelisation and intelligent test selection.

  • Positive feedback from development and product peers on QA collaboration and shift-left practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in software QA with a clear automation focus.

  • ISTQB Foundation certification (preferred); Advanced certification is a strong plus.

  • Microsoft Azure certification is an advantage.
