Senior UI/UX Developer

Discussion

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior UI/UX Developer who bridges the gap between design and engineering. You will not just write code; you will protect design fidelity, optimise performance, and build scalable front-end systems that our clients rely on every day.

Working closely with designers, product managers, and engineers, you will translate designs into pixel-perfect, accessible, and performant React interfaces — and set the standard for how our front-end is architected, reviewed, and maintained. This is a hands-on senior role with real influence over UI architecture, design-system direction, and the growth of the engineers around you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design-to-code delivery — Translate Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch designs into pixel-perfect, responsive React interfaces, preserving visual continuity and micro-interactions.
  • Component architecture — Build, version, and maintain reusable, well-documented component libraries and design systems that scale across client products.
  • Performance engineering — Diagnose and resolve slow renders using React DevTools, code-splitting, memoization, and modern rendering patterns.
  • Accessibility — Ship inclusive software that meets WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards through semantic HTML and correct ARIA usage.
  • State & data flow — Model complex client-side state cleanly with Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or Recoil, and integrate RESTful and other APIs.
  • Quality & testing — Write and maintain tests with Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright, and uphold quality through thorough code reviews.
  • Design–engineering partnership — Streamline handoffs between creative and engineering teams, advocating for the user and challenging complex flows to reduce friction.
  • Mentorship — Coach junior engineers on clean coding patterns, UI architecture, and review practices, raising the bar for the whole team.

Technical Qualifications

  • Experience — Generally 5 to 8+ years in front-end engineering, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Education — A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Design, or IT, or equivalent production experience.
  • Core tech stack — Expert-level React 18+ (Hooks, Context, concurrent features), TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • UI/UX tooling — Mastery of design-to-code translation using Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
  • Styling layer — Mastery of CSS-in-JS (Styled Components, Emotion), Tailwind CSS, or Sass/Less for custom component styling.
  • Design systems — Experience building, versioning, and maintaining enterprise-wide reusable component libraries.
  • State management — Expertise in complex client-side state with Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or Recoil.
  • Web accessibility — Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 compliance, semantic HTML, and ARIA attributes for inclusive software.
  • Testing & tools — Proficiency with Jest, React Testing Library, or Playwright, plus build tools like Vite or Webpack.

Core Professional Qualities

  • Design empathy — A fierce dedication to pixel-perfect deployment, micro-interactions, and visual continuity.
  • Performance-first mindset — The instinct to diagnose slow renders and optimise before problems reach users.
  • Systems thinking — Treating UI as a coherent product system rather than a set of isolated pages.
  • Bridge builder — A natural ability to mediate and streamline handoffs between design and engineering.
  • User advocacy — Constantly challenging complex flows to prioritise intuitive layouts and lower friction.
  • Mentorship capability — Patiently coaching junior engineers on clean code, reviews, and UI architecture.
