You’ll play a critical role in helping your team understand user needs and will drive impact at all stages of product development, ensuring products are useful, usable, and helpful. You will explore user behaviors and motivations by conducting primary research, including: field studies, interviews, diary studies, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis. You will also grow within a supportive UXR community offering mentorship, regular meetups, and exclusive internal tools.

As a Senior User Experience Researcher for Google Health, you will guide the future of how people interact with AI coaching experiences in the Google Health app. In your day-to-day work, you will collaborate closely with product owners, intelligence teams, conversation designers, and model designers. Your role will span an end-to-end experience with a major focus on applying research insights across the model development stages. You will investigate and create new research methodologies to meet product demands and to evaluate complex, non-deterministic user interactions.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $159000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Own end-to-end research roadmaps on human-AI interaction, focusing on personalization, user trust, agency, and mental models to inform the design of agentic experiences.
  • Develop and adapt novel research methodologies to effectively evaluate non-deterministic AI behaviors, complex multi-turn journeys, and multimodal interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design to translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive, user-centric product experiences.
  • Own project priorities, vision, and strategy discussions through research by analyzing, consolidating, and synthesizing user, product, service, or business needs.
  • Leverage Generative AI and advanced research tools to accelerate qualitative data synthesis, streamline research operations, and scale insights.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience of experience in an applied research setting (e.g., product or academic), or similar.
  • Experience with research methods (e.g., usability, studies, contextual inquires, 1:1 interviews, unmoderated research studies).
  • Experience researching and validating novel technologies, and testing non-deterministic experiences.
  • Experience utilizing AI/LLM-based tools (e.g., Gemini) for research tasks such as thematic analysis, survey drafting, desk research, or rapid prototyping.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience conducting UX research on products and working with executive leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • 3 years of experience managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Experience conducting user research for complex, emerging technologies, such as conversational interfaces, intelligent assistants, or health coaching AI solutions.
  • Experience adapting to and integrating new technologies, software, or AI-assisted tools into day-to-day research workflows.
