Senior WordPress Developer

About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced WordPress Developer with a strong background in both development and on-page SEO. The ideal candidate will have end-to-end project experience — from concept and design to deployment and optimisation — and a solid understanding of how to build high-performing, search-friendly websites that drive results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver full WordPress projects, from initial design through to deployment and post-launch optimisation.
  • Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins using PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and MySQL.
  • Implement best practices for on-page SEO, including keyword structure, schema markup, and content optimisation, using tools such as Yoast or RankMath.
  • Integrate REST APIs, third-party tools, and automation platforms to enhance functionality and improve user experience.
  • Ensure responsive, accessible (WCAG-compliant), and SEO-optimised designs across all devices and browsers.
  • Convert Figma/XD designs into fully functional, pixel-perfect, and high-performance WordPress websites.
  • Continuously monitor and improve website performance, usability, Core Web Vitals, and conversion metrics.
  • Optimise sites through CSS/JS minification, image compression, and CDN implementation for maximum speed and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience developing and launching WordPress websites.
  • Proven track record in custom WordPress development, including bespoke themes and plugins.
  • Strong understanding of technical SEO, site structure, and page speed optimisation.
  • Experience with WCAG accessibility standards and implementing inclusive web features.
  • Ability to convert designs from Figma or XD into responsive, production-ready WordPress websites.
  • Familiar with page optimisation techniques (CSS/JS/Image compression and CDN usage).
  • Proficiency with Git, cPanel, and popular hosting environments (e.g., WP Engine, SiteGround).
  • Familiarity with Google Search Console, GA4, and Tag Manager for analytics and tracking.
  • A portfolio of live WordPress websites showcasing development skill and design quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Desirable (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with WooCommerce or membership sites.
  • Knowledge of automation tools (Zapier, Make, etc.).
  • Understanding of Core Web Vitals and advanced performance optimisation techniques.
