On behalf of our large multinational client, we offer a great opportunity for an experienced SQL Server DBA to take the lead on a project to remediate their legacy SQL Server estate.
The Project
- Current state - 49 instances across Express, Standard and Developer editions, spanning SQL 2014 through 2022, several out of mainstream/security support
- Audit each SQL Server instance and decide in-place upgrade vs migration on a case-by-case basis
- Execute with no performance degradation and minimal downtime
- Coordinate app testing with stakeholders
- Rebuild backup jobs and confirm successful full backups
- Stand up monitoring in PRTG
- Get every server onto a patching schedule
- Handover with a clean checklist and support docs
You'll need
- Hands-on experience upgrading/migrating SQL Server at scale (2014→2016/2019/2022)
- Solid grasp of SQL Server backup strategy
- Patching and PRTG (or equivalent) monitoring
- The confidence to run a large multi-server estate independently
