As a Service Estimator III - HVAC, you'll serve as a senior and highly independent estimator in the Service Department, responsible for preparing complex, accurate, and profitable pricing proposals for HVAC service, repair, maintenance, retrofit, and replacement projects. You will leverage deep technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems to develop competitive estimates, lead estimating efforts on larger or more technical jobs, mentor junior estimators, and ensure full compliance with contractual and company standards. This advanced role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to deliver high-quality estimates that support business growth and customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all proposals, pricing documents, and estimates fully comply with contractual requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies.
  • Collaborate closely with Service Technicians, Project Managers, and Sales teams to refine estimates and provide technical guidance on project feasibility and pricing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors to secure competitive pricing and timely material availability.
  • Utilize Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel (and other estimating tools) to produce professional, detailed proposals and maintain accurate records.
  • Mentor and support Service Estimator I and II team members, sharing best practices and helping improve department estimating processes.
  • Review and validate estimates for larger or high-value projects before submission.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, value engineering, and margin enhancement while maintaining high standards of accuracy and customer focus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in HVAC service estimating, with a strong track record of preparing accurate and profitable estimates for commercial projects.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical training, associate degree, or Bachelor’s degree in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required; EPA 608 certification strongly preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with occasional job-site visits for estimate walks; ability to walk active sites and lift light materials as needed.

  • Strong analytical and estimating skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer relationship-building skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with estimating software is a plus.
