About the Role
We run a hands-on service department that maintains and repairs a fleet of commercial medium and heavy duty diesel trucks, including Pierce fire trucks. This is a working manager role. You will have one service writer who handles most of the paperwork and phone calls, and 4 to 5 diesel technicians on the floor. You will split time out in the shop dispatching work, keeping jobs on track, and coaching your techs and in the office with the service writer.
If you are a shop foreman or lead technician who is ready to move into management, this could be a great fit.
What You Will Do Every Day
Dispatch work to your techs and keep the shop loaded and balanced
Walk the floor and check on jobs in progress so techs do not get lost chasing a problem
Step in on tough diagnostics and help techs work through them
Make sure jobs are done on time and we hit the times we promise our customers
Mentor and train your techs so they get better every month
Work side by side with your service writer, who handles most of the phone calls and paperwork
Handle service requests from our commercial truck leasing customers with urgency and professionalism
Recognize warranty failures, file warranty claims, and follow through on warranty recovery
Keep the shop clean, safe, and organized

Customers and Vendors
Build and keep strong relationships with customers and vendors
Investigate customer maintenance issues and see them through to a fix
Handle every customer, employee, and vendor issue professionally
The Business Side
You will also help run the department as a business. This is a smaller part of the day, and we will help you grow into it.
Review monthly shop results with the management team and help correct what is off track
Track shop productivity and tech efficiency
Help the management team prepare the annual business plan and budget
Help us meet Navistar Diamond Edge and Prestige service standards

A leader who enjoys being out on the shop floor and working directly with techs
